Talk about aggravating!
like rabbit said, using a bit of Fray Check or similar will at least keep the hole from spreading. I wonder what's behind it, too - even if it's happening in the same place since you're rubbing against something, it doesn't happen to ALL of your knits, or to the same extent.
It's interesting to me since i sew and i've noticed none of the knits i've sewn myself have developed these type of holes.....it makes me wonder about the quality of fabric manufacturers are using, and how they treat the fabric and garments in the manufacturing process. These little holes are notorious for showing up along seams when an old, dull needle was used - the needle catches on and tears the fibers. But usually these holes won't show up right away, it takes a few wears or washes....so i suspect some of these holes are due to inappropriate handling before purchase.
