Several years ago, I had hair longer than yours, cut it much shorter (with layers), and then regretted it. I've been slowly, painstakingly growing it back out ever since. I'm not saying you shouldn't go short, but I'd definitely make sure you're doing it for you, not because you feel pressured in some way (like I did).
As others have commented, you have gorgeous long hair that looks like it might be naturally straight. Have you colored it at all? (I can't quite tell from your photos whether the lightening toward the ends is due to color, sun-bleaching, or shading from the light.) The main thing I would recommend, if you're trying to improve the overall appearance, is to remove any damage.
If you're tired of having it around your face, there are a lot of accessories that can help with that. I use a kind of clip called the flexi-8 that comes in a variety of sizes and doesn't snag my hair. There are larger ones that will let you do a full updo in less than five minutes, and smaller ones that can be used for a half-up or to pull the sides back.
Like the other commenter said, I'd love to hear whether you want a change more for lifestyle or convenience, too... that's the main thing that has tempted me to go shorter.
