Thrifted Luxury: How Would You Wear?

I just bought this skirt and faux fur jacket at a local thrift store!

The silk chiffon skirt is by Carmen Marc Valvo. Notice how the ruffles go to alternating heights at the top, which reduces bulk at the hips--it's a really clever and flattering design. It comes to mid-knee. $6.

The faux fur jacket is Bagatelle by Badgley Mischka. This is really cute on--fitted through the torso and waist-length on me. The sleeves end just above the elbow. I've been eyeing fur vests for a while, but something a little more retro-looking appeals to me. Not something I would have sprung for at retail, but for $8 . . .

How would you style these items? The skirt could go very dressy, but I am thinking of trying it for early spring with black leggings, ballet flats, and maybe a striped top and denim jacket. I might have to pack away the jacket for next year--we will hit 60 today!

Wow - what fabulous finds! Both of these are beautiful items. The skirt I would pair with everything! If it's cold out, I can see the skirt with boots, lovely blouse or layering tee and a great blazer. If it's warm, it will look fabulous with some strappy sandals and flowy blouse (belted) over the skirt. As for the faux fur jacket, I can see this with skinny jeans tucked into boots and a great top underneath, or over a sheath dress...the possibilities are endless.

For the jacket, if the length works, might I suggest dark-wash skinny jeans under it, with maybe an animal print top if you have one?

Also what about this jacket and skirt together with coloured bright top...?

man I have the exact same skirt (but from H&M) and I use it as a layer under shorter dresses to add length, as a skirt itself under a cropped blazer that has some edge (because the skirt is feminine it counter the edge), and under a regular colorful blazer jacket (boyfriend type)!

I think those are nice ideas for the skirt. It is so pretty. I guess it will always read as kind of a dressy piece but it's a shame to let it hang in the closet. Go Team Wear. Wear it now! Can you work it into an outfit this week to challenge yourself to actually wear it?

wear skirt with plaid or gingham woven shirt, leggings and flats.

or denim or chambray shirt tied at the waist and cowboy or riding or moto boots or fun booties.

Love both items!
I have a pleated chiffon skirt that I wear casually with casual boots/booties or flat sandals and casual tops/vests jackets. (picture below) It works well that way.
The jacket I would pair with skinny jeans a simple top and pumps.

I love the idea of the skirt with a denim jacket. I don't know if you need the leggings under always, when it gets warmer I'd go bare skin.

That fur jacket would be AWESOME with jeans and boots!

Yes, Modgrl, I think I will wear the skirt in a casual outfit on Friday. I mean to wear it and not make the mistake of "saving it for best."

Thanks for your excellent ideas, everyone. I will try the jacket with skinny jeans and boots over a fitted top--maybe with a vintage choker necklace for some more of the retro feeling.

Does anyone think I could wear the fur over a casual dress? I have a simple, fairly streamlined charcoal sweater dress, midi length . . . with burgundy patent pumps?

Now that is what makes thrifting worthwhile! Great finds.

Check out Angie's blog post today - you could totally pop the fur vest/jacket over a top for a fun night out look. It's kind of warm for it, but I see it over a textured sweater and boots w/ jeans for chilly days. It might work over a dress - worth a try!
