You've been very patient with me. Thanks! This is not my normal shopping pace by any means. I'm making major strides and it's great.

These are the famous Freebird Quails I saw on Janet and a few others and look so great. They are actually pretty comfortable (a 3" heel is about a max for me). If you order, you may want to size down half a size.

They're beautiful sandals, very striking, but I wonder if they're good on *me*. Especially as they're pricey, I want them to be great beyond any doubt.

I don't have cankles per se, but it's like the calf starts flaring out almost immediately from the ankle so I wonder if this shoe emphasizes that.

I'm also throwing in pics of a Top shop sandal which raises similar concerns. Should I be avoiding laces or a taller shoe that hits at that point. It's like wearing a choker when you have a wide neck.

Let me first off start by saying you are a beautiful woman perfect in every way. My personal opinion is that these shoes are not worthy of you beauty. Meaning they are not your season. They look like they are cutting you off in a ackward way. They are both beautiful. I thing they are mentioned for someone with legs 10 miles long. On the other hand I have shoes that cut me off but I love love love them.

I don't see any offense in the first pair. Any leg cutting off is mitigated by the heel and the leg lengthening it offers. I say keep. They are edgy enough to suit your fashion sense. The diff to my eye in the two pairs is the straps are uniform on the first pair while in the second there's a lot more visual weight placed on the toe area with the thin ankle straps making it a little off balance visually. Plus as I said the heel helps a lot.

They fit you well and I see beautiful ancles! No way near crackles. Are they making you happy? Can you wear them for a length of time? They fit your style very well.

ETA: the flat second pair looks a bit off to my eye, but I can't point at what exactly it is.

I think the first pair looks fabulous on you! I don't see any issues with your calves, the sandals fit you beautifully and they are edgy. Are they comfortable? If so, keep them, they were made for you!

I read your text before I looked at the pictures, and I see NO cankle or "wide neck" effect. On the contrary, I think the Freebirds look really, really good. They emphasize the slenderness of your ankle and the taper of your calf, and the even-sized straps are lengthening. I agree with abc that they're better than the Topshop pair. They aren't nude, but they aren't bold; the dangling ties look busy. The Freebirds are bold but very structured. The Topshop shoes are interesting and boho to me. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

I have the Freebirds (the very pale sand coloured ones) and count them among my all-time favourite shoes. Can't wait to start wearing them again . It's hard to tell from these pictures because of the angle, so I can't really comment (not sure I would anyways - lol). But that said, they are a statement shoe, and draw attention to one's feet and ankles, and you have to be comfortable with that. If you like them on yourself, wear them proudly. If you're in doubt at all, trust your instinct. That's my cheap advice for the day

I agree with abc and Ginger. I like the Freebirds on you, but I'm biased because I can't wait to start wearing mine! I got them toward the end of the season last year so I didn't get to wear them much. I think they will get a lot of wear this year.

The Freebirds look like your style and look fine on you. As Lisa said, trust your instincts. If the slightest thing feels off, you won't reach for them. I am not wowed by the Top Shop pair. What Harmonica said. I'm not sure why I think they look off.

I looked very closely at your photos, trying to find any hint of a cankle, but saw nothing of the sort. Your ankles look great! I think the first pair looks good on you, but would try them with other lengths of pants or skirts. If however, you are unsure of them, you should go with your gut. As said, these are pricey shoes and you want to make sure you love them.

I don't think the second pair work for you.

I see not ankle/cankle/whatever problem. I prefer the first pair on you. The color of the second pair and the fussy tie don't seem right.

Agreeing with others that the first pair look great! I also think they are in line with your inspiration photos you posted not too long ago.

I'm not loving the second pair. I think abc's comments about them are spot on.

When you pull back and see the Freebirds and your whole leg - I think they're on the money. I don't think the close ups show them well.

Don't like the second pair - because I still have the voice of my gypsy neighbor's father in my head: basket weaver shoes!

Lol. You have to consider my opinion in light of this.

Love the Freebirds on you, they are edgy and cool and look great on your feet. Not loving the second pair. I think it's because there's too much of a contrast between the delicate ties and the very wide foot strap on the bottom. It's like they're two different shoes from the ankle up and ankle down. The bottom part reminds me of house slippers. But the first pair is fantastic on you!

I think they look fab! Ref. laces, you can try to tie them on the back of your calves, then see if you like so(they will look smoother from front:-)).

The black sandals are just the cutest thing on your foot. I would keep. They are original, unique, and very darling. I find that they actually flatter the smallest past of your leg, accentuating its beautiful line. I know how high vamp shoes, shooties and booties can sometimes shorten the leg line by cutting through, however, somehow, these do not; maybe due to the holes, their lace-up design, or again because they have a bit of a heel - in a shape which, btw, is totally "in" right now. No "cankle" ahoy.

The flat gladiators give off a very different vibe, so the black ones are not a duplicate. Whereas the black ones are funky chic, the gladiators are definitively bohemian. The first pair could go to work, events and clubbing with you; the second pair calls you to lounge around, relax, or just go about the house, all in a playful way.

Gosh I think they look really nice. They seem to hit at a tiny place on your perfectly lovely leg. But I so know th issue. I find it is the combo of the high strap and a skirt that shortens my already short legs. Nonetheless I like the look so I accept it.

Love the Freebirds on you! They are a "lot of shoe"; statement pieces as others have said and you wear them beautifully. I find that if I am not 150% into attention grabbing pieces, they aren't my best investment, as I don't wear them enough and I regret that somewhere out there are "my" statement items. I wouldn't keep them if the hesitation remains. Bravo for being able to sport a 3 inch heel.

The second pair doesn't excite me for the same reason as some others: the issues of the fussy ties and overall balance of the shoe. They have almost the opposite vibe of the black pair which are so structured.

I think the Freebirds look great on you. The second pair is OK, but not as fab as the first. I don't see any calf issues at all. Perhaps what is giving you pause is that your legs are really white right now (oh for a little warm weather and sun!), which seems to make everything glaringly stick out.

As others have said: yes to the Freebirds! They look fab in you, and I agree that they enhance ankle curve. The flats seem to have too much coverage in the front, which isn't balanced enough by the laces to my eye. Have you owned that style of lace-up sandal before? I recall trying it years ago and I had to tie the laces so tight that they cut off circulation, otherwise they slid down and just bunched up around my ankle as I walked.

The other shoes are going back. I had seen them on a blog and they looked great! Didn't translate well on me.
