THE worst fashion faux pas....trend, IMO

I think that this may be my new cause. Yesterday I saw a young woman dressed like this going in to a store . Then I turn on my computer tonight and there is Sofia in the same outfit. My heart cannot take this anymore. Please, please, tights are not pants. sob....

I came so close to approaching the young woman at the mall, she was so cute. She was wearing a lovely thong...yes I could see it. I just wanted to point out to her that her "pants" were see through. But for some reason, see through skirts, without slips, don't make me so crazy.

Mochi, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse...you tell me it might be intentional ?!

The young woman I saw had on boots, a scarf and a winter coat. She was with a young man....he HAD to have noticed. Mochi, if you EVER see me post a pic of myself like that, please, please get me some help !!!

Bleehjhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! This is one of my top fashion pet peeves. It drives me batty. Like, seriously, did you NOT look at your backside in the mirror before you left the house? I think the see-through skirt is less egregious because it's conceivable that it was not see through in the particular light in the room where you put it on. Whereas tights are never anything but tights and definitely NOT PANTS.

I once saw someone wearing control top tights as pants. Not a good look.

Sigh. You know what? I think everyone is too darn polite. People think there is nothing wrong with this - they feel no shame, because no one is shaming them! Whare are their mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers and BFFs? Does no one love you enough to tell you when your thong is showing? If one of my friends showed up like that, I'd quickly link arms with her and haul her to the nearest store/closet to grab a coverup - I don't care if she yells at me!

Rae, I stopped and watched the young woman walk through the door. I didn't know what to do. What eventually crossed my mind was that she would be mortified and would have no option at that point and she was with her boyfriend. I dunno.... I would want to know and I would run to get a skirt or get back in the car.

If it were a friend or family member, I would NOT hesitate.

Is it really a matter of taste ? I don't think that I have ever detested a "look" the way I do the current tights as pants.

As an only somewhat reformed hoochie-mama (who in all honestly might have worn something highly similar to this gal back in the day...) I do believe the look was intentional, and fueled by the thought that she looked good and wanted to flaunt it.... all of it. If she is a dancer, I can see her doing rehearsal in the tights, thong and sports bra, then throwing on the top to head home.... not that I'm saying this is an appropriate way to appear in public, but for the young and firm of body, I guess, I can see why someone might think so.

This is also basically what male ballet dancers wear....

I have yet to see anyone wearing tights as pants, I thought wearing leggings as pants was bad enough...
But, this reminds me of a situation just a few days ago, where I knew I should have confronted someone and didn't....
I was in Costco and saw a perfectly lovely looking lady walk by in a long, flowing pink dress--as she passed, I noticed the backside of her dress was COMPLETELY see-through, and she was giving everyone a great view of her black boy bottom panties. Are slips a thing of the past??

Ugh, I wanted to chase her down, but--I have plenty of excuses:
I was standing in line with my little boys
I'm shy
I didn't want to embarrass her
what if she yelled at me?
maybe it was intentional????

My husband lovingly scolded me for not having approached her-- if it wasn't intentional, wouldn't she want to know so she didn't embarrass herself again? and- if it was intentional, it should be brought to her attention that it's not cool.

Next time I will do the right thing...

I didn't know not to wear leggins as pants until YLF, but mine were NEVER see through and skin tight. I think maybe her boyfriend is, ... ummm... *paying* for her company?

I think some people think you can't show too much, and I remember watching some show like "How Do I Look?" (is that a show) where the woman was SO hoochie and kept insisting the judges, her sister and her mom were just jealous of her hotness. And she was no model of fitness or beauty, either.

I also had a case where the mom of my client (a young disabled teen) would show up to meetings with the trust officer of her daughter's trust with just about all of her cleavage hanging out, to the point where the neckline of her t-shirt was just about under her breasts. It was unbearable.

I see a fair number of very young girls wearing this look, tho not with their bottoms so visible. I feel really old saying this but it's not really appropriate in public, and I don't think it's remotely stylish.

I agree that it's almost certainly intentional, out of a misguided sense of "hotness". Especially in the example picture. My city is well-known as a party spot and I see incredible acts of tackiness like this all the time.

I have never seen anyone sporting this look (thank goodness!), but I come from fairly conservative area. I like to show a little skin as much as the next person (my family/friends would be shocked if I ever showed up somewhere without a little cleavage showing), but I feel sorry for young women who think that baring all their "assets" to the world is sexy. What happened to maintaining a little mystery?

My niece sees this a lot since she is on a large college campus for much of her day. I suggested a public service campaign complete with bumper stickers!

OK, the woman in that picture has a pretty nice butt. I have been to a LOT of comic book conventions and let me tell you, this woman is a model of propriety compared to people dressed as Aquaman or Electra the Assassin who *really really really should not have been.* At least this woman's tush is fairly pleasing to the eye.

Does that excuse the outfit? Hellno. If my daughter ever dresses like this, I'm having a fit.

OMG! I agree that has to be intentional, and dressing like that will attract the wrong kinda man, IMO. I'm so glad my daughters don't dress like that.

This is the kind of look that my younger brother loved. When he saw a girl like this walking down the street, he'd say:

"Some fries with that shake?"

And then my mother would chime in:

"Two kittens fighting under a blanket!"
