Lately I've been incredibly pleased with how my (sensitive, over-reactive, acne-prone) skin has been behaving, and I've received a lot of out-of-the-blue compliments on my complexion, which makes me feel absolutely over the moon. (Growing up, I had a *lot* of visible skin issues, and while they are less volatile now than when I was a teen, it's still something I'm rather insecure about.) The other thing that's amazing is that for the first time in years, none of the topical treatments I'm using are prescription items. So in case it's helpful to others with skin issues, here's the routine that is successful for me right now:

Night: cleanse face (and remove makeup) with jojoba oil on a cotton ball, very gently rubbed on my face. Gently massage oil into face with fingertips. Remove eye makeup only with a tiny bit of this on a Q-tip. Remove excess oil by patting gently with a washcloth. Apply a thin layer of tea tree oil over face, concentrating on the T-zone.
Once a month I'll apply an Aveda clay masque. I'll also use this on spots only if I feel a potential breakout in an area.

Morning: During shower, wash face with unscented Mychelle cleanser. If I'm feeling oily, a couple mornings a week, I'll apply a thin layer of Clear skin serum after I'm out of the shower. About once a week, sometimes twice, I'll use an Aveda botanical exfoliant on a cotton ball and apply it to my face, concentrating on the areas where I tend to get blackheads.
I apply Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 55 Dry-Touch Sunblock, and after it dries, proceed with my usual makeup routine.
And that's it.

This sounds like a lot more work than it actually is when I write it all down, but it feels very low-key and simple compared to the days when I had a plethora of prescription treatments at hand. My skin is responding so well to the gentle treatment - I still experience some minimal breakouts, but they are easy to control, and my facial skin is also looking more healthy and hasn't been prone to over-drying or eczema in a long while. Hooray!

What's working for you these days?
