hi everyone! this is for day 1 of the picture perfect challenge (an explanation is here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....sandstyles). basically, i will post a random picture from flickr that you are supposed to use as inspiration for the next day's outfit.

the picture is sepia-tinged and has a vintage, retro feel. a young woman is centered within the frame, surrounded by wildflowers and tall grasses. her hair is wavy and shoulder length; she is wearing a flowy, cream-colored skirt that hits just above the knee and what looks like a polka dot top with a deep red scarf. her eyes are hidden behind large sunglasses and she is looking off towards the left of the photo. the photographer seems to have been kneeling down and looking up at her to take the shot. the photo is called "peace of mind."

Hi all,

I changed my blog name from bellacville to bella.

Here is my outfit:

I was more inspired today by the color and shapes of the picture than the overall mood. Besides, I am leading an important training workshop today, so something a bit professional was in order. I decided to recreate the divided look of the picture with a dark skirt that represents the dark, tall grass in the bottom of the picture and a light, blue striped blouse with ruffled collar that emulates the blue-grayish sky and the clouds. The outfit has a lot of textural interest that doesn't come across in the pictures. The skirt has a lovely drape running down the front and I am wearing a lace tube top under the blouse.

Ooooo, Bella! I like the way you captured the blown-out colors of the photo; that's been the tricky part for me in thinking about how to do today's challenge.

The drape of the skirt gets that windy look, too! And the top/bottom color contrast, the depth of texture of the necklace and blouse detail...Nice. Very nicely done.

(P.S. The photo links are all to the same detail photo. I found the correct ones on your photostream but you should edit.)

Okay, this is my first attempt at a challenge and I have cheated! There is no way I would be allowed to wear this outfit to the office but couldn't resist posting it.

Like Bella I loved the elements of light and dark in the picture but what I was drawn to the most was the contrast of the summer skirt against the autumn scarf.

Here is my interpretation:
Chloe for La Redoute grey blue sleeveless ruffle dress. This dress was designed by Stella McCartney and therefore ancient.
French Connection chocolate brown leather slouch boots with bow detail.

Bella, I love how you used the composition and colors in the original picture to come up with your challenge response - that skirt is beautiful on you.
Ana, I agree that the dreamy mood & casual style in the original pic really comes out well in your outfit. I LOVE your gorgeous scarf!

My challenge response is more in line with the "Peace of Mind" theme, though the skirt and scarf were inspired by the original photo.

Kari, how cool that it was the peace/serenity of the photo title that inspired you the most! Love the softness of the scarf against the harder solids.

For my interpretation, I took the lighting and the dense, dark colors as the cornerstones of my outfit.

wow, i love seeing everyone's different interpretations! you all look gorgeous! i didn't have time to post a photo today, but i will tomorrow when i have some time to breathe.

ana, i thought it would be best to post all photos on the same thread so everyone could refer to the original picture and then all the various interpretations at the same time and compare and contrast what everyone had gotten out of it. does that make sense?

Here is my outfit. Keep in mind I do not have an artsy bone in my body. I did not have to go anywhere today, hence the super casual.

I thought of this shirt right away when I saw the photo. The color of the shirt is the color of the sky and the detail on the front resemble flower petals.

I'm not sure if I'll get a photo, but my outfit is very similar to Ana's. I needed to be casual so went with a white amost sheer cotton voluminous peasant top with mandarin collar, deep slit, and lots of tiny pleats bordered by white lace over a white cami with lace on the bottom...all this reminded me of the billowy white skirt in the photo. This was paired with dark denim Matchstix clamdiggers from last summer, a very narrow long light weight navy silk scarf with white polka-dots, and nude plain ballet flats for a barefooted look.
I would not usually have worn the scarf but liked the darker color next to my face and the way it also floated out when I moved.
