The hunt for white jeans: Update PICS ADDED

So last week, I asked you all for your recommendations on white jeans. A white jeans shopping spree ensued, with the following results.

Angie recommended Kut from the Kloth, but as Lisa confirmed, they were not available in my size.

Zapotee recommended American Eagle, which were both available in my size and on sale. I ordered, they arrived, but the rise is too low for me. (This tells me something about my body shape: I am high-waisted and short-waisted.) The good news from AE is that I got a cropped white denim jacket as well and will be keeping that.

Sarah recommended J Crew high-waist skinnies as being more of a straight leg and also not needing to be sized up. Good news, since they were on sale (final sale -- what is up with J Crew) and only available in my size. They came, and I love them! They need to be hemmed, and maybe to be taken in slightly at the waist.

MaryK and Glory recommended Gap, and a pair of Long and Lean white jeans were here when I got home last night. Tried them on and love these too. Also need hemming and maybe a waist nip.

I am now well sorted, ladies! Thank you so much for these recommendations. My photographer is at soccer practice, but if he's game, I'll add pics this afternoon.

I am having a hard time picturing someone who is both highwaisted and shortwaisted. Was that a typo???

Thanks for the reviews! I bought a pair of white jeans from gap but not the long and leans. I think they are the bootcut. They were on final sale for about $6!! I can't wait to see your pictures!

Yay! Glad you found some winners. The Kut jeans really are fantastic, but they need to get their sizing in hand.

MPJ -- I always thought high-waisted and short-waisted were kind of the same thing, but maybe I'm using the terms incorrectly. When I think of "long-waisted," I think of someone with a long, narrow swoop between the bottom of the ribs and the top of the hips.

I have very little space between ribs and hips -- does that make me high-waisted or short-waisted?

Yay! I know how happy I was when I found my perfect white jeans (thanks again Dianthus!) so good on you!

April - Hee! I believe you would be short-waisted. I am long waisted. I have about an extra 1 1/2" between my natural waist and my hips than average (and thus a longer torso). This comes into play when a garment has a waist seam, because it will likely not fall right on me, and many tops are too short in length. (Less of a problem recently with the popularity of tunic tops.)

Wait not one but TWO pairs of white jeans! That's wonderful! I've had my white jeans for 3 years now and I dread when they need replacing. It easily took me a dozen or more pairs before I found my current pair.

Okay, my soccer playing photographer came home to take some pics of the white jeans.

First pair are the Long and Leans, prior to tailoring. They need to be shortened, have the waist nipped, and probably snip out the front pocket linings and stitch the pockets closed.

Second are the J Crew high-waisted skinnies with extreme scrunch. I thought I would have about an inch hemmed to preserve some scrunch -- does that seem right?

April, both are super cute on you! And how smart are you to have two pairs of white jeans. I know I can only get one wearing out of a pair of them. (And at that, I feel like they're dirty, just from dust and pollution about half way through the day.)

Short waisted and high waisted are pretty much the same thing. I am quite short waisted and all legs. I find that high waisted skirts and pants don't really work for me, as they are all the way up to my ribs...v. uncomfortable.

I think you are on target with your alterations. Be sure to wash them a few times before you have them altered, and then I would still allow a little for residual shrinkage.

Dana -- you're so right, thanks for that reminder. I have sometimes forgotten this step in the past and have regretted it later when my pants are a tiny bit too short.

Inge and Shannon -- thanks for the encouragement. I was feeling a little uncertain after my photographer used the phrase, "pancake butt." Ahem. You need a thick skin to parent a teenager.

I think you have his number, Angie. There aren't many circumstances in which he would select "low-hanging and baggy" over "form-fitting."

Both look great, especially after you get the alterations done! I also vote 2" on the slim pair, 1" won't make much of a dent in the amount of scrunch there.

Two inches it is. I'll take both of these to the dry cleaner as soon as I have washed them at least once (note lack of procrastination re. tailoring -- must keep Angie off the caps lock button...)
