The (finally) altered dress with a new underlayer

I'm going home on the weekend to celebrate my grandfather's birthday on Saturday. I wanted to wear my new dress (I finally had it altered just right), but with an underlayer other than black. So I went to look for a "tissue" layer in a nice color for under the dress. Let me just say, it wasn't easy! After many stores I went home with this inexpensive purple turtleneck.

I plan to wear the dress and shirt with my boots and black textured hose. Because I have to pack finished outfits for the weekend, I thought I would ask for styling ideas. How would you accessorize? Any ideas?

I actually like the simplicity of the printed dress with the turtleneck. If you really want accessories I'd add some large bracelets.

Love the idea of this with boots! I agree with Lisa on the bracelet and would add some big earrings as well!

I think the styling idea with textured hose is great.

Since you don't wear earrings, the bracelets are fine.

Do you have any brooch? I'm not sure if it would compete with the collar, but I'm mentioning it as an idea.

Or, how about trying that necklace I thought was white, I think you wore it over another turtleneck?

Happy birthday to Grandpa. How precious it must be to have his generation still around.

Perfection! Gosh, I love this dress on you. What about a long necklace--that's what I would try. This is the perfect outfit for a pair of Docs too--I guess I've got Docs on the brain these days : ) You look so adorable in this--have a great time with Grandpa!

Lisa, I like the idea of some large bracelets! Not sure I have something that fits, but I can look in one of these costume jewelry stores tomorrow in my spare time.

Amy, I rarely wear large earrings because they always get in the way of my hair and specs. I have some big silver hoops that I haven't worn in some time and that was it. And I can't buy them cheap like the bracelets because I can't wear costume jewelry earrings without having an allergic reaction. But I will look for some bracelets!

Thanks, Ornella! I just wore the tights in the pic because I was too lazy to change, but I definitely think the textured hose will look great with it. I don't have any brooch, but I want to have one! Maybe for christmas. Do you have a specific style in mind? I tried the necklace you mentioned and I liked it better without it. My grandpa's birthday was actually yesterday, but we celebrate on the weekend so that all the working people (and me) can come too. He's 80 years old now! My grandmas are 82 and 79 years old, my other grandpa died almost exactly three years ago. It's nice that I still got to know them so well!

Thanks, Kelly! I also like the idea of the necklace, I have a long one with black beads that would look well I think. How do you know I think about getting a pair of Docs? I'm still not sure though, because here they are mostly worn with this grungy look that I don't like and I don't know if they would work with my style.

Not to enable or anything but I think they would totally go with your style! I think it would add a nice edge to some of your more classic outfits--and with jeans!

OMG - I love that dress! I also vote for the bracelets ... although you could use a large simple pendant which hangs down instead too

The dress fits you like a glove! This is a testimony to having things altered. I love the grey tights and the tissue turtleneck with it. I have a houndstooth dress with a similar collar and just recently I pinned a brooch to the side of the collar and I really liked the way it looked.

Definitely worth the effort with the alterations as the dress just looks fab on you Astrid. Another vote for chunky bracelets. Do you wear statement rings at all?

This is really cute--the purple is a great choice with you hair and looks cute with the red shoes. It sounds like your planned outfit will be great too. I don't think this dress requires anything extra.

Thanks, Claire! Alteration is really great, I'm so glad I discovered what is possible for very little money. And a second vote for a brooch! I don't own one and I won't buy one now, but I'll keep it in mind. I thought about getting one for some time.

I had a look around today but I didn't see anything that I really liked. I think I'm going to wear my charms bracelet, even if it is rather unobtrusive. But I have some big bangles on my list now.
