The Chocolat Blu gold zipper boots arrived...

and, sadly, I think they are going back. They fit perfectly in the calf, ankle, and foot, but they are just too tall. I don't actually think they look too tall, but when I bend my knee I can feel the boot hit the inside back of my knee. I don't believe that's something that can be easily solved, right?

By the way, Myhabit listed the shaft height as 16.5". I was hoping that was the side height (the front and back dip slightly) which would have been OK, but it turns out that is the front height. The side is a whopping 17.5" tall. If you remember I was looking for 15-16" tall shafts.

Sigh... well, onwards and upwards. On the other hand, if you are really tall, this might be the boot for you.

Holy monkey, that IS tall. Doesn't look like they could be shortened much, either, because of the zip detail. Bummer...

Too tall is a really good reason to send the boots back, Diana. If it bothers you now, it'll only be worse once you start walking around in them.

Keep searching! In the meantime, you've saved a few $$...

Gah!! Why is this so elusive! I feel your shorter calf pain! I learned 15" is MAX for me, and 14" is probably better, but nowhere to be found.

Too bad! But don't settle! Keep on trying . . .

Yes, very tall. They LOOK uncomfortable. I have a friend who likes to feel her boots at the back of her knee. It drives me crazy.

Since the zipper doesn't go all the way to the top, you might be able to have them cut down. Rinaldi's in Boston, on St. James, close to the Hancock Bldg are miracle workers. But the cost might not be worth it.

I think that you are making a good call by returning them.

Very tall and very uncomfortable! You will only grow to hate them with time as they will rub something fierce. Better to send them back and wait for your perfect pair!

Ah, Isabel, there is another zipper on the inside that does go all the way to the top. Hence why I think it is unfixable.

You know, I have never actually tried on a pair of boots this tall before (except for OTK boots) ... it's a very odd feeling, and I can tell that it would be super annoying.

I just returned a pair of black boots myself, I was so bummed. They weren't too tall, just too wide in the calf. These:

RE-ally. You can't catch a break with these boots, can you? Hopefully the right one will show up. In the meantime, you perhaps could stalk some of the more expensive ones already brought to your attention...a price drop and/or a consideration of whether paying x amount beyond your previous limit would be worth it to you, or else just hold off till next season or whenever a better boot might come out....

DJ, it's possible that they might shorten with wear, but they might also not and that's not a risk I want to take. Plus, in order to shorten with wear, I'd have to wear them at the uncomfortable height for a while first.

Mochi, I have a price limit (although it's not concrete) mostly because I'm not sure this is a NEED rather than just a strong WANT. You might recall I've been trying to wear all 13 pairs of boots I own (only one left to go!) and while it's clear that I don't have anything resembling a tall, sleek black boot in my wardrobe, I've also not had any trouble getting dressed in the last year that I've been without it (I tossed an old pair of not-very-comfy black riding boots midway through last winter).

Besides, the expensive ones (those Jimmy Choos that Anna showed me) are VERY expensive. Like, 1K expensive.

Yup. And so an unlikely 50% discount would mean--$500 dollars! Whoop de doo. I hear you. Well, in the meantime, keep giving your current boots some love, and we'll see.
