Rita, I am not familiar with your Russian parties so not really sure what's appropriate there but if I can be honest your look is much more classy and sophisticated than this. Your style is standout and to me this stands out for the wrong reasons. I really feel this dress is no where near good enough for you.

What about toppers, etc.? Or maybe that's not necessary for these parties?

The style is great, and I'm a longtime fan of houndstooth. The question I would be asking myself is: given that this piece is intended to showcase my curves, does this dress succeeding in making my body look hotter than hot? ( Being bodycon, it might as well give you some Figure Flattery bonus points). It's a bit hard to tell from the photos; the strong shadows are, possibly, overemphasising some aspects which may be hardly apparent IRL; so the following is more a routine checklist than a fashion alert:
>VPL.? a thong may be essential :).
> Creases and wrinkles. They usually suggest that you have bought a size too small. A frock that appears to be "straining" can also give the erroneous impression that you have gained weight. Check bodice,bust and hips?
>. Bandeau muffin top. Bandeau style bodices are notoriously difficult to fit , even for the top designers, because the bandaging effect forces bosom and armpit flesh upwards and outwards. Usually when this happens, your bust is simultaneously flattened - the "road hump" effect - and your bosom looks a size smaller than it really is (what you get with a badly fitting bra) --see pic of Michelle Obama below.

(Of course, you could avoid any potential "overflow" problem altogether by switching to an equally sexy corset-style bodice with straps.)

[Do bear in mind that Marilyn was almost certainly wearing a hideously uncomfortable 50s style "pantigirdle" ( a waist-to-knee reinforced foundation garment) to achieve this seamless effect. Perfection has a price:)] If you don't have a second full-length mirror to get a comprehensive rear view, get advice from the same honest friend.
That said, whatever you decide re this frock, I wish you a fabulous time at the Russian restaurant party. Those shoes alone will guarantee you a fun night out!

The top part seems a bit too tight for me. I do like the dress and think you make it work but it is not perfect on you. I would let it go.

Perfecto base for a Betty Boop costume - you'd be amazing!!! You could also go Minnie Mouse with it, too.

Frankly i don't see what's so all out offensive about it. Especially if you do nice hair and makeup and a little jacket or shrug with it, what's the big deal? But then i live right in the heart of the SF bay area, and we see a lot around here

If your hubby likes it it'd be a sin to let it go. You've def. got the bod to pull it off. HTH!!!!! steph

Lyrebirdgully, those are amazingly excellent pointers on how to achieve ultimate sex goddess status! As in every pursuit, attention to detail is everything. i'm bookmarking this thread for future reference, tho no events on the calendar at the moment.

But i have to admit that when i read, "...is your modesty hopelessly compromised even if you cross your legs?" i thought, 'Isn't that the whole idea? " Needless to say, i am enjoying this all a bit more than i should!

I see no modesty issues for what I know your event is like! But I don't like the way it's crunching you by your armpits... I know that's a problem for me with this type of neckline, because I have to keep the dress hiked up - maybe I have a short neck to cleavage distance. Is that just from the pictures?

I am not sure what Russian parties are.

However, I would not choose this as a going out dress. I tend to prefer houndsooth as a more professional or even casual look than date night.

It also looks tight and uncomfortable, especially if you tried to sit.

I find it interesting that it's so polarizing - I don't really understand why, especially. Yeah, it is a short tight dress but it is for a specific purpose in your life; you are not wearing to the office or the park with your kids. It might not be x's taste (even for such an event) or Y's taste, but if it fits and feels comfy and you like it? I say enjoy.

But I still get to worry about your poor cold shoulders!

I came back to say go with what you think. You know best if this works in the setting you want it for and how you want to present. I trust I didn't come across too strong with my earlier comment but there is no point if we are not honest. Despite the fact that i don't personally love the look I have no doubt that you would bring your style and sass to it.

I kinda like it. The houndstooth is really unexpected on such a bodycon cut. And it's not scandalously short. I am wondering if the issues I'm seeing around the top of the bustline are a combination of lighting and pose, because they don't seem as apparent in the last photo. I say if you feel fab and sexy and fun in it, it's great for the Russian parties!

the deal breaker for me is the fit around the arm pits. I don't mind short and snug, but I really dislike seeing spillage. I do realize that may not be the case IRL though.

I guess I don't get why any event (other than Halloween) should allow for tacky.

Kim, I'm a bit like you personally - I wouldn't be comfortable in it. But if somebody IS, and likes and enjoys it, then I think the main issue has to be fit. And as some have said, there are potential fit issues with this one, but it is really hard to tell from the pics how real those fit issues are.

I'll have to try it again to see if it's a combo of lighting and pose or really a fit issue. I tried it on for 5 min at 11:00 pm. Maybe a trial in the cold hard light of day will make a difference. Hubby likes it, that vote counts for a lot!
