Test Pants - YouLookFab Forum

I've been curious about the Express Editor pants before and Angie has mentioned them to me in a thread of my own that they might be worth trying. Then I read with interest Angie's blog post this morning and went over to the Express website to read and price.

I don't know what size I take in these trousers (other than the short part - lol!) and shipping/customs, although nowhere near as pricey as FiftyOne delivery, is still an expense at $50 for trousers and a jacket. Hmmmm....what to do when risking a brand I've never tried before.....oh I know, check out eBay first.

Yep - found a pair of Express Editor black trousers in what I think will be my size. eBay seller gave excellent measurements which I quickly did on myself (with my office door closed and window blinds shut, I assure you) and offered very inexpensive international delivery (they are coming from LA), excellent price point on the trousers and they are unworn with tags still attached. Yep - I pressed Buy Now and have ordered them. They are not the short length but it will still give me an excellent idea as to sizing. For the total of $39 (including delivery) I figured this would be a great way to test out the brand. And if they fit perfectly, I will have a fab pair of black trousers which are very versatile for my work and I will know what size to order should I decide to proceed with something else. And if they don't fit, not a huge dollar loss and I can donate them to my local battered women's shelter that is always looking for new corporate wear for their clients.

So am I the only one that does this - look for "test" items before diving in and spending real money?

Yes, I do this at the thrift store all the time on styles or colors that I'm not sure about. For example, I recently bought a red clutch there for $5 that's a slightly dated style because I wasn't sure how much I would use it. I've used it more than I thought I would so now I'm on the hunt for a more modern rendition.

I do too. However, I happen to own a pair of thrifted Express Editors so I know my size and am considering trying them out in a different color.

Glad to hear I'm not alone! And if these don't work out, I promise not to have a melt down like I did with the white Danier leather jacket - lol! I don't have as much invested in these financially or emotionally, if you know what I mean.

We can compare: which size did you get in Jessica pants? For me 12 was fitting like skinny pants - and 12 is my usual size in Express unless they are white so I size up to 14.

The Jessica pants fit in the 12 petite but were like a skinny and because I wanted a slouchy look, I sized up to a 14 petite. The Express Editors I just bought off eBay are a 12 regular so it sounds like I might be on the right track size wise? If they fit, of course they'll need shortening but hey - I'm used to that.

I do !!!! I especially did that when switching things up a little with YLF. I got a cheapo, really cheapo, pair of skinnies at Kmart ( like $7 ) in oder to wear them around before "committing" ....the funny thing is the Kmart pair ended up being one of my favorites even after.

This, to me, is one great use of consignment stores. I found my Theory pants there (for FREE!!) Well, not really free, of course. I'd "earned" them. But still. It was a way for me to try the brand, the style, and my comfort with them -- for very low risk. After that I felt more comfortable buying other things.

I've especially done this when trying a new color or style of bag before investing big bucks. Same with the Target neon green jeans. I'll get my $17 wear out of them but maybe not if I'd paid around $100.

I think I am all alone. I usually only test drive items I can return for free if they don't work out! Yep, I am spoiled in the US. Although, without a Danier!

Yep! Like Isabel, my first skinnies were $10 from Beall's Outlet. Non cargo skinnies I still wear.
I hope your Editors work out. I buy almost all my Express stuff off eBay to be honest. When you factor in shipping, it can add up fast.
