Target's Altuzarra collection -- is anyone as excited as I am?

I honestly cannot WAIT for September 14 to arrive! I'm going crazy for the dresses, the swiss dot blouse, and perhaps the pencil skirt. The pencil skirt is not in my current capsule silhouette. But it's just so gorgeous, so chic... I don't think I can ignore it.

I feel like I could go really, really crazy and spend a lot of money come September 14. Thankfully, I'm on a tight budget and can't do that. So I have to choose one or two pieces wisely.

Anyone else going crazy for the new collection?

Flipped through and saw some things I liked too. The velvet red blazer in particular. Keep us posted on your purchases please!

I also really like quite a lot of things, such as the red dress, black and red velvet pantsuit and the orchid sweatshirt.

YES! I have my eye on the black crane tuxedo lapel dress and the wide belt. Fingers crossed that dress fits on short-waisted, short me!

I am so infatuated with so many of the pieces - but I realized... I can put together many of those looks with what I have already, which came as a very nice surprise.

So who wants a spoiler? My BF came up and stood over my shoulder as I was scrolling excitedly through the online lookbook. He said "STOP GO BACK", and made me scroll back to Look #4, which he declared his favorite: "Look, now you can dress like Amy Farrah Fowler".

He somehow sensed my incoming swift elbow jab back in his direction and dodged out of the way in time.

It just occurred to me that if that crane dress doesn't work, I may poke around Etsy and see if I can find any vintage or antique Asian embroidery pieces that can be trimmed down and re-purposed on a plain black dress that does fit me.

abc and Tanya, I also am smitten with the red velvet blazer. I don't even do a lot of red. But it's really opulent and rich looking.

La Belle, I love your idea to hit Etsy and refashion something! I actually think it will look better than the original design, with more texture and interest. I wasn't as crazy about the crane and orchid pieces. They looked rather flat and a bit one-dimensional to me.

Thanks for sharing...I loved looking at the lookbook...Perhaps the reptile print tube skirt...maybe the orchid sweatshirt...Mostly, I need to stop looking but hey you made me catch the fever...(Like you actually made me...smile) so I will be looking forward to September 14...too....

Yes, that pencil skirt is neat! Are you talking about the python print one?

I have been looking for a flounced skirt like the one in this collection for a long time. Unfortunately, I am usually sized out at Target (like La Belle, I am short and short waisted, so I usually have to go to the specialty boutiques).

Gigi, yeppers! I originally preferred the slit high-waist black one. BUT I don't like how high the slit is. And the python is more fun.

Sorry you get sized out at Target. I'm 5'10" and size 14, so usually RTW isn't the easiest for me either. In fact I can't do Shop Bop often because most of the sizes only extend to a US 10.

You know, I get so enthused with most of their designer collaborations ....until I see them in store and just can't. Mind you, I'm never at one of the stores that gets the full line, but I'm always disappointed or brought down to earth by stuff made in Bangladesh with inferior quality fabrics hanging on lousy white plastic hangers. I know Target does really well with these promos but I just don't get it. Sorry for being a downer- because I understand the excitement of the ad campaign, I really do. I'll be interested to see what is bought and posted here - Altuzarra has become a favourite designer of mine.

lisap, you're not a downer! I have the same problems with it all. It always looks so lovely until I see it in the store. I think the last designer for Target I purchased was Isaac Mizrahi, and that was forever ago. I am hopeful this will be an excellent collection. But we'll see.

I'm also over the over-priced "designer" collections that H&M and others put out. I'm sorry, I'm not paying you $50-$150 (or more!) for a bland dress.

I sadly didn't hear of Altuzarra prior to Target. But when I did look him up, my heart stopped beating. His designs are just gorgeous.

If I end up buying anything, I'll post photos and thoughts here.

I actually really like some of the orchid prints, I'd have to see them up close and see how the fabric felt, but I'm intrigued.

lisap - I might be off base but for me it's as simple as designers want their ideas to be accessible, known, and worn by more people then just a fraction of the 1%. That sometimes means cost cutting measures (why pay for fancy hangers? where is the value? As a Target shopper I don't see it) and fabrics that are easier to care for and less expensive.

It doesn't always work out successfully, I agree. but anything that brings more interesting design experiments into financial reach of a majority are worth it in my book. I don't think it's about creating a luxury niche within Target as I see it, it's about making pieces that fit into their existing racks and pricing, but offer a different or fresh look. Again, I could be wrong here.

Oh, Lisap, you aren't a downer at all. I had high hopes for the Pilotto collection, and the Neiman Marcus collab, and even the Missoni... but when I saw them, I felt 'meh' about it. The photos for all of those looked so much better.

But I also remember great collabs, like the Gaultier for Target. There were some very nice dresses - one of which I actually bought, wore a few times and then passed along when I outgrew it. It was a beautiful pale green that had lavender-ish highlights in certain lighting.

So I figure I will go look at the belt and the dress... and if they aren't fab in their own right (i.e., regardless of the fancy name on the tag), then I'll take a pass - and if the idea of Chinoiserie-inspired cranes is still haunting me, I'll start my etsy search.

I'm with lisap. Target collections leave me cold, not with the presentation but with the fabric quality and construction. I totally get people wanting a designer piece, I just wish they could get better ones at Target price points.

I should have not used the cheap white plastic hanger as part of the issue I have - that's just the retail merchandiser in me coming out. I guess my problem is I'd rather not have it at all than have a poorly made alternative . Rabbit, you make a completely valid and correct point about introducing design to a wider market- and to those who score the best pieces - that's a fun thing

Okay...I still haven't bought anything. I wanted the wrap dress, but it feels a bit too glam for daily wear in a office were people were jeans, shirts, and casual shoes. And it feels over the top for church. Honestly, I don't go out that often. I would still wear it and love it like heck. There was also a magnificent maxi dress that seems to have disappeared already. (not the orchid or boho one, another one.) Sad day. but life goes on.

The best choice seems to be the Swiss dot bow blouse. My eye goes to that blouse every time I peruse the collection. So that may be my only purchase.

Has anyone seen these pieces in real life? How is the quality and sizing? I might be interested in the python sweatshirt.
