SYC - Week 7 (?) - YouLookFab Forum

I know its not quite Week 7 in the US (I think!), but after the morning I have had, I needed to start this thread because it looks like I'll be joining you all for longer than just September...

First I discovered that my digital camera battery and/or charger are so dead they don't charge anymore. A new battery is almost as much as the camera cost in the firstplace, and I don't even know for sure if its the battery or the charger that is the problem.

Then, my car had a flat battery so I had to call out the car club, and whilst the call out and labour was free, the new battery was $185 (old one wasn't just flat, it was dead).

AND THEN, I was sitting here reading things and my laptop started to shuddder! Now I know its nearly 3yrs old and been more and more temperamental, so I'm guessing the *shuddering* is the latest symptom in the list that is telling me its time to replace!!

When you add it all up, I'm going to need some SERIOUS cash in the next few months!

So, from now until, well, I'm thinking at least December, I'm going to be with you girls.

I have set the following exceptions though:
* Aussie YLF Meet - but I will set myself a fairly limited budget!
* Fabric and notions for sewing - BUT ONLY if I have been through my entire stash and there REALLY isn't anything here that can be used.
* Races... I may need new shoes for the upcoming race day. I can borrow a headpiece, and make a dress, but all my friends have bigger feet than me and I have no suitable spring shoes.

So those three things are the only exceptions.

But the worst part for me is that I can't even post WIW's to "keep in the game" because I no longer have a working camera!

It will end up being 3.5 months, which is still a looooong time for me, but seeing how you girls have been faring, has encouraged me to believe I can do this too.

How are you all doing? Has everyone actually listed exceptions to their challenge? How are you motivating yourselves?

I suspect my house will be fully decluttered instead of half done, and I will begin sewing a whole lot more!

Oh no, Theresa! I'm sorry to hear of so many costly dilemmas in one day. <Crossing fingers that laptop shuddering doesn't mean you'll be off the forum, too.> When it rains, it certainly pours.

I'm so sorry for all the breakdowns and new expenses you are coming across. [It sounds like the week that both our dryer and then our washing machine died within days of each other (so like the old, loving couple they were) . . . followed by the huge leak in the old refrigerator . Eek.]

You have set some very reasonable parameters. I know you can do this!

ouch! that is discouraging to have so many expenses all at one time.

I got my shopping fix in the other day after discovering my oven quit working. I will look so nice wearing my new Maytag don't you all think?

I forgot to mention last week that a friend gave me a gift card for New York and Company as a thank you for watching her little boy,... and I'm not even tempted by it. I tucked it away and will enjoy using it come January. I really am seeing how much potential I already have in my closet and have enjoyed trying out new combinations. It's actually a really freeing feeling to say no to new stuff for a bit.

Oh Theresa, these things come in packs, don't they? I hate when it happens.
However you set up a great and very manageable plan and 3.5 months will come by in no time.

Thanks girls! It does always seem to be the way - nothing goes wrong for ages, then all at once!

Mae I have been backing up all my laptop data just in case it dies, so I'm hoping by getting as much as possible off the current hard drive I will get enough life out of it so I don't have to go missing - I think I'd die of withdrawals if I had no YLF!

Kim that is so funny! If only we could wear expensive items like that LOL And great that you aren't swayed by the gift card!
