Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Summer wedding part 2

So, I got a call from my sister last night asking me to be her matron of honour for her wedding!! I was taken by surprise - I really wasn't expecting it, but I'm totally honoured (no pun intended).

Anyway, my sis plans on buying lots of the same fabric, and then letting me and her bridesmaids choose whatever pattern we want for our dress, although she wants all the hemlines to be about the same (not sure what hemline she wants - I'm hoping about knee length since it's summer, and the wedding is in the afternoon with an early evening dinner/reception).

So, does this pattern still work, do you think? I've emailed the link to her, becaue I know ultimately it's up to her, and I really don't know what type of fabric she's going to choose other than dark blue. Probably something drapy like a crepe, I'm guessing (hoping?). If it is drapey, I might need a different pattern.

Any thoughts?

Christine, do you have a link to the pattern?

How fun, Christine! That sounds really special for you and your sister.

RE: hemlines, in the wedding I'm in this summer, the bridal shop we went to reminded us is that for photo/coordination purposes, it looks best to have the hem of the dresses hit the same point on everybody from the ground (being the same height when the bridesmaids are standing side-by-side) rather than hitting the same spot on everybody's bodies. The bridesmaids/maid of honor and I are all different heights, so this is something we needed to be aware of. I'm not sure if that's something your sister is concerned about, but it's worth checking just in case you need to leave extra fabric at the hem to adjust later.

kari - that's a great point. Thanks for that. It will depend on shoes, too then. We'll definitely keep that in mind.

Sorry I forgot the link to the pattern. Here it is.

Oh, and I like view C, but I'll do a longer sleeve, about elbow length, maybe a little shorter.

That’s lovely! I bet you’ll make a wonderful maid of honour.

Christine, I’m not blown away by the style. Do you have other pattern options? Something with a prettier neckline and sleeve detail?
