I've been without a camera for quite sometime (hence the lack of posts) and my smart phone just doesn't take good pictures. I've missed photographing my outfits and keeping track of what's working and what isn't...so I have started to use the Stylebook app and am actually having a lot of fun with it.

It seemed overwhelming to take pictures of all my wardrobe pieces at one time, so I've just been finding the same or similar pieces daily using Google images and it doesn't take long at all to create a visual log! In high school I used to draw out pictures of my outfit everday on a calendar and it feels a lot like that...little polyvore outfits:)

Nicely done! Do you actually have the RL shoes in #4? I'm wearing them today:-). I love them...so much so that I also bought them in white and in blue.

I'm using this same approach for my spring planning but I use PowerPoint. I saw your boards and I thought -- hey, that's what I do. This looks so familiar it is scary! Love your work. It's right up my alley. And yes, it's just fun (and I like a plan.)

Carter: I have blue/gray denim vans. Bought them last year. Saw a similar look in your boards...and here again. We all must be surfing the same wave length... I really love them.

Thanks a Carter! Yes, I do have those slip ons, and I love them. The white part of the sole was looking a little shabby so I used a Magic Eraser and it cleaned them right up,

Elizabeth, good to hear someone else is finding t's app useful. I've had Stylebook downloaded for a couple years but just felt overwhelmed by the thought of photographing everything. But breaking it down in daily bits isn't bad! Thanks.

I have to tell you that this is really weird timing. I have my PowerPoint document open right now and I am doing a color study, evaluating a few new purchases, and doing some outfit planning. It's not fully baked quite yet but I'll be happy to share later or in the next day or two. I'm really enjoying this approach. But I am a big planner... and I have to do some significant refreshing this spring/summer. How do you find this approach for you? Enjoyable? Efficient? Etc.?

Chiming back in. My PowerPoint document is really a working document that includes overall color palette, color studies, style statement, working descriptors, signature look, statement look, seasonal planning, pictures of my outfits, pictures of my pieces (not completed) etc. It's is a very large document but I've found it incredibly useful.

Am, it would be fun to see, but no rush or anything:) I feel like all I have been doing is thinking about capsules and closet organization but haven't really been able to figure out where to start. This just seems like "fun" and in the process I am realizing I have plenty (if not too much) and can satisfy my need to be creative this way, instead of shopping for some new item for the next inspirational outfit I see, IYKWIM

Okay I bought the app. I like the idea of Googling my recent purchases that are still online so I'll have less to photograph. Where/how do I start? I'll have to do this on my iPhone, I guess.

I'm a little self conscious about showing my Powerpoint but Carter...I think I remember seeing some of your handy-work. And I felt right at home!

AM, I have LOTS of ppt posts! You don't have to show the whole document. Just save the pages you want to show as .jpegs and post away!

Bettycrocker, I just started with the outfit I was wearing for the day as not to get overwhelmed. Found my items or similar ones on Google images or even polyvore and just add them to your closet. I found examples of the accessories i was wearing, too, so I could get the full effect. With those items I created a "look" and then you can add the look to in calendar. It's really pretty simple to figure out!

I started off photographing my most-worn items in batches -- I did black tops one day, my cardigans another. I do try to find the images online, but often they are on a body and sometimes hard to edit out features. I have a mix. Mostly it's for me to recognize the item and get a true idea; I don't care much about anyone else having to see it. That being said, I have found it necessary to use Photoshop Express app on my ipad to make some of the colors more true -- that is because of the poor light in my house. But it does make a bit more work. (All my blacks were looking brown). I also use the Over app to add text where necessary -- for instance, some of my jeans looked alike and were difficult to pick the right ones in creating looks -- so I used the text to write on the photo which was which.

The packing list function is brilliant.

There are some improvements to the app that I wish would happen, but overall I am thrilled with it.

Thanks, Ann....I'm going to check out your additional apps as I have had some of the same issues about being able to differentiate between some items. Love the idea of being able to add some text!!!!

I got going much like Ann. Photographed what I wore, or picked a small batch of whatever... a few skirts one day, long sleeved tees the next. It's really easy if you remember to pin or copy when you purchase things. I don't worry too much if there is a body in the photo - at least the record of the piece is there and you can replace the photo later if you'd prefer a different one.

It's a good idea to do it as you wear things, because it clearly shows what you're not wearing!

The packing part IS brilliant. I use it to track what I wear per season, to play with capsules, lots of things as well as packing.

I also insert photos of me wearing the outfit, so I can see how it actually looked, and how I accessorized it.

Looks like this technique is helpful for many of us. I'm feeling more at home all the time. And Carole, it is fun. And it does expand the creativity (and I feel like it slows me down to think and create BEFORE rushing to purchase). I'm with ya sister!

I just wanna play instead of purchase, at least for the next few months. I can't think of anything I need to add to my wardrobe, so I'm good for now.

I also really love the stats that tell you the most-worn items, least-worn items, best values for the month.

I am really learning that I need fewer items and that I can spend more money on better quality items that I will wear a lot. Of course, I knew this intellectually, but now I'm getting data to back me up.

It's also making me not hoard items for a better occasion.

Elizabeth-it's clever for you to add a photo of "you" in the outfit...I think I should start doing that, too! It's interesting to me how an outfit can look so much different "on the body".

Ann-I can see how useful it would be to have stats. I'll have to start logging that with all new purchases....this app will provide an easy way to track cost per wear etc.

Carole, thanks so much for the Google image search idea. I downloaded the Stylebook app too, but found it so hard to take photos --the background erase function kept erasing parts of the clothing too. So I gave up. If I haven't deleted the app, I'm definitely going to try your suggestion. Now I just have to overcome my lack of style eye--whenever I've tried to put boards together, what looks good to me "on paper" has been totally off IRL.

I love your outfits and colour schemes!

Aliona-thanks and your welcome. IKWYM about things looking better on paper than in real life. The erase function can be awkward to use and not clean enough for my preferences...a similar clean image is better than choppy or buggered up photos!

I'm thinking of installing this app but I can't tell if it's easy to add images from pinterest. I have a pretty complete set of pins of my wardrobe, so I don't want to duplicate all that effort. Any idea?
