Star Ling boots - keepers?

After seeing Marianne's thread on these boots, I'm starting to have doubts about keeping these. They looked perfect on her and not so much on me. Here they are anyway...

1. keep or return?
2. I can get them in black...would that be better?

Dani, I haven't wrapped my mind around this look yet but just wanted to say that I really like the color (of course, I am super jealous of your fab chesnut knee boots too!). Maybe it's the proportions that look a little off because you have such long legs - have you tried it with a tunic length top?

I like the boots and love the colour but I am not as keen on the boots with your jeans, maybe try the boots with leggings and a tunic or a different pair of jeans.

I think the boots look great. I think it could be that the top is with volume, the boots read also as volume. A sleeker top would do it. I say keep the chestnut!

Hmm. I agree with GG, I think it's the proportions that are off; we're both tall girls, and I find that those half-calf boots cut me off at the wrong place. I prefer booties/shooties or full-calf boots better on me.

That said, try it with a skirt or leggings and see if that's better. I LOVE the chestnut color!

Yes, can we see the boots with a sleek top, in a different color? I think the bright color of the top is throwing me off, too. Also, how about trying the boots with full-length black leggings and a tunic?

p.s. I have the boots in black and they are wonderful, if that's the way you decide to go.

Hi Dani, I am by no means an expert on the subject, but I got the feeling from the picture that it is the top that is the problem in the balance of the outfit. I think that with these boots, a longer, maybe boyfriend length sweater might do the trick.
I have the boots in black and have not worn them yet because we continue to have a heat wave here. I like the chestnut color that you have but they do seem very warm in color. You do wear alot of warm colors in your wardrobe right? They should work well for you then I would think.

Dani, I think they look great. I don't have any problem with the proportions. This is the look and over time, they will scrunch down more. Maybe scrunch them down more and see if you like them. As for color, the chestnut seems really "you" but if you feel black would be more versatile then try that. I do not think the black will change any uncomfortableness you have about the proportions-- they'll just be black.

Thanks for the opinions. That's what I get for throwing the boots on with the top I was wearing I've got a busy day today (getting my oldest ready for Kindergarten...sigh), but I will try a few more combos and post them, hopefully tonight.

I do wear quite a few warm colors so the chestnut will work fine for me. I'm a little worried that if they only look good with leggings and tunics on me, they might not be as versatile as I don't have a variety of tunics. I think the more I see them, the more my eye adjusts to the look. Thanks for all the help!

I think they look great! Maybe it's the color of the top that is throwing you off? I have only tried mine with tunic length - somehow I have a feeling that regular length fitted tops wouldn't work as well, but I haven't had time to play around with them much. Angie also suggested wearing them with dresses - I don't have any, but what about your BR sweater dress from last year? I can't advise on the color since I am quite color-challenged, but it seems that brown works better with your palette.

Those are cute on you! The proportion issue is probably partly "getting the eye used to the look," and partly the top you are wearing. I think they'll look fine with jeans tucked in, especially when they scrunch a bit more.
