So I couldn't get this Express (minus the) leather jacket out of my mind. I was looking at it online last night but wanted to see the color and fit in person before buying.

Two malls later, this is the clay in a small. I paid full price because I love it. The color and fit are perfect, the only downside is that it's not real leather. I've bought real leather jackets for $10 at Goodwill, but what good is that if they don't fit and the color isn't flattering (they have since been culled)?

Is the color good on me? How's the fit? Does it seem to be my style as you understand it? Is this good "bang for the buck" for an investment piece? Will it help me on my style journey? Will it blend with my other clothes? Thanks for voting/commenting!

Oh! And I found the long sleeved navy/white striped T at Walmart for $7.48!

Oh my golly gee Claire - this looks FABULOUS on you! The fit is absolutely perfect and I love the colour. I think this is perfect for your style journey - since you're kind of rockin' the Parisian chic look these days, this would count as one of your 7 essentials wouldn't it??? (so it's faux leather...who cares!) I can see this with skirts, dresses, your skinnies like you have here....oh yes...lovely choice!

KEEP! Lovely color, lovely fit, and the simple, restrained, elegant style is great for you. No crazy lapels or biker studs for you. And would you look at that? The cafe racer collar style covers your SNP, too.

I took some photos this morning from the side, to show Angie "those boots", and after looking at them I felt like flinging the camera out into the snow. My only problem with faux leather is it doesn't breathe, so I get too hot - but if you don't have that problem, this looks like a keeper!

Tarzy, it has knit sweater fabric on the underside of the sleeves and down the sides (including armpit area) so it might be more breathable where I need it to be.

Rae, I can always trust you to look out for my SNP, lol! I will wear a scarf with it most of the time, I'm sure.

Una, you're so funny! My side view would have provoked a similar response last week, I'm sure! I swear I'm like two different people. One PMSing and one regular!

I was so overcome with gratitude for you when I tried this on, Angie, you did all the work of finding it and the fit really is amazing. And it comes in so many colors! There was nothing in the Express window displays that would have ever drawn me into that store. If it weren't for your article, I would have never known about this fab jacket! FAB! Biker-style jackets never go out of style (I'm actually actively shopping for one right now from Danier!). I think it's a great investment even if it's not real leather. if you didn't tell us... I don't think we would have even known!

This is a fantastic piece for you, Claire. Seems to fit all your criteria, and it looks wonderful on you. That colour is SO versatile. (Hmmm....it sure would be great to find a trench in that colour, too, wouldn't it?)

I also think it is a victory of some kind that you looked for it, tried it, loved it, and paid full price. I know that isn't easy when for years your shopping strategy was to buy only at sales or by thrifting. I'm not saying it's wrong to try to save money or wrong to look for bargains. But I suspect that most great wardrobes are built around a few key pieces that would be worth it to the wearer at almost any price. Know what I mean?

This is so fab, and I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Yay Suz, I was hoping you'd check in and let me know if the color was "Suz Approved". You have a keen eye for colors that look good on us cool toned gals. Even though the color is neutral, I'm very excited for the possibilites. You are SO insightful about the victory of me paying full price, too. I knew if I loved an item enough, I would do it. I feel like this might be my (for lack of a better word) 'inspiration piece' --something that represents a turning point in my style journey. Hmmmm. I think I'll start a thread on that.....

And faux leather doesn't bother me if the texture is nice. I have a faux leather jacket from Lucky that is very realistic in leather look and feel.

This is a wonderful piece that suits you very well! I usually have some reservations about pleather, too, but no first-hand experience. Seeing this jacket on you might just change my mind about pleather! I hope you'll keep it.

Macrame, I'll let you know how it goes with the pleather. Several of my friends have pleather jackets that I'd always assumed were real leather. I'm usually a snob about those kinds of things....like with handbags (because of the beating they take). I think I will only be wearing this for a few months of the year, so hopefully it will hold up ok.

I think its worth keeping at full price. Truly. However, if you want to try to get a discount on it.... I've found that Express constantly has on-line coupons, usually along the lines of 25% off $75 or more, that can be used in store and on-line. They don't advertise them on the website, but if you search(key words: "express" and "coupons") usually something will come up on one of the coupon aggregator sites. But, based on the list of previous promotions shown on this site I'd guess there is going to be another one starting right after Christmas. I don't know if Express will price adjust, but it might be worth a try. In any case, think the jacket is cute, versatile, fits you well, and is worth it for the list price, so anything else, as my mom says, is gravy!

LearningCurve, that is a very good point. It was important for me to have it under the tree (since that's my husband's Christmas gift to me--he just doesn't know it yet, lol). Also I think I got the last Clay colored one in my size in my city. When I checked out, I *did* ask if they would price adjust if it went on sale and they said yes, if it went on sale in the next two weeks. You can bet I'll be on top of that! Do you happen to know if the website and stores always have the same prices? I wonder if it goes on sale online it will automatically go on sale in the stores as well.
