I have to laugh about the striking. An old college professor of mine went with her husband to Paris on vacation some years ago, and she wanted to do a little research at the Bibliothèque nationale while there. When they arrived, she wanted to go to the BN right away to make sure it got done. Her husband argued that they had all week to do it. Well, she won the argument, and they went to the BN. And it turned out that it was a good thing that she had, because the library was closed the whole rest of the time they were there. Some days it was closed because it rained (yes, they closed for the rain), and other days it was because the transit workers were on strike. Ah, France!
