Specs Q for my husband

Is it okay to ask style advice for men here? My husband is considering buying new frames but is worried about how much the pair he wants costs. So he's also considering having new frames put in an old pair that belonged to my grandfather (#1 and #2). His current frames are in picture #3. He's a tweed-wearing Latin teacher at a prep school, for your reference. I'll add a link to the other frames in a second.

Yay = go with the vintage frames
Nay = no way! Go buy new ones.

What a handsome man! I think the vintage pair is kind of cool in a retro kind of way. They seem to suit my idea of "tweed wearing Latin teacher." Not sure if I would want those 24/7 though. I like the idea of a more modern look for date night and such. Just my 2 cents.

I think the vintage pair is a great contrast to his current pair. Will he still be able to wear his current pair, prescription and condition wise?

Oh my gosh, the frames in consideration are called Gregory Peck and inspired by Atticus Finch? *swoon.* Not only is To Kill a Mockingbird my favorite book (and among my favorite films), but Gregory Peck gives me heart palpitations every time. (Though I confess I swoon a bit more over him in Roman Holiday.)

I think the vintage frames work on your very handsome hubby, and they look quite similar to many of the "geek-chic" frames offered by spectacle retailers like Warby Parker. I'd have to see the pair in consideration on him to choose between them. Can he keep his current pair as a back-up in case he tires of wearing a very retro spectacle on a daily basis? I like to rotate between a couple pairs since I wear glasses most of the time.

Ewan McGregor glasses for the win! They remind me of the dad's glasses in Heroes.

Although it'd help to see hubs in the Atticus Finch glasses for comparison.

I guess it depends on if he wants to play up the Geek Chic look or go with a more modern/artsy look.

Rawr! The vintage glasses win by a mile, although I love the Oliver Peoples ones as well. I'm thinking Atticus Finch meets Indiana Jones ... They are cool, unique, meaningful and flattering - as well as consistent with his work and cheaper. What's not to love?

Honestly he looks amazing in the vintage glasses, but he'd look good in all of them.

The Oliver Peoples! Does he love them? If so, you should encourage him to get what he really wants. If he's ambivalent, then the vintage frames are fine. In my opinion the OPs have a more elegant frame than the vintage which appear heavy to me.

If he's getting the vintage as a compromise, because he feels he should not spend so much, every time he puts on the compromise glasses, he's going to think of what he really wanted.

Or maybe women just think that way...

Does he want to get The Oliver Peoples in black? And if so, are his current glasses black? I like the way #3 looks colorwise and they don't look like true black on my monitor. From the pics I would think the solid black ones might be a bit harsh in real life, but you would need to look at them in neutral daylight conditions to say that for sure.

I like the vintage glasses! I think they suit him, but I wouldn't get them as a compromise. Would he wear the new glasses everyday? I think you have to be 100% happy and can't compromise with your frames if you only have one pair.

I forgot to say that he is considering the Gregory Peck frame in Cocobolo, not black.

What he really wants, I think, is to have both the vintage pair and the Oliver People's pair fitted out with his prescription... $$$! Maybe that's what we need to do, though. I'll try to get some shots of him in the Gregorys to post.

Since glasses are such an integral part of one's style, I second his plan to get them both fitted. The vintage pair looks fabulous on hubby! And he is quite the cutie

Well, he could always get the OP's now, and if he likes the style a lot, he can just hang on to the vintage glasses and upgrade the frames during another year if that makes the financial impact easier. If he is really set on the OP's and will deeply regret it if he misses out on the frames before they are discontinued, I'd say that he should go for it.

Totally agreed with Una's comment - Atticus Finch + Indiana Jones FTW!
Also, your husband really, really looks good in specs. I think there are some people who look especially striking wearing glasses, and in my opinion he's one of them.
(My boyfriend is as well - he's talking about getting LASIK, and that makes me sad.)

The vintage seem like a fun change from his current frames.

I am a huge OP fan, but the Gregory Peck style is retro-y (like the vintage frames), so I am not sure they are worth the extra dough (though if the challenging Buff color looked good on your husband that might be a nice mix: classic style with modern/surprising colors).

Since we are talking glasses, I have to put a plug in for the glasses I wear (not in my profile picture though), which are tortoise, but with glitter on one side: http://www.kirkoriginals.com/c.....oldglitter

This style is just as much fun as it sounds, but not nearly as "out there" as you would think. Also, I find that the lighter, more golden tortoise really brightens up my face, compared to the traditional.
