So I have been a bit distracted (even from threads I started, sorry to say) by some big changes that have suddenly become imminent. We are moving back to the city in a couple of months, I'll have to find another job, we need to sort out where we live and schools etc. I may well become the primary breadwinner, which I haven't been for some years now.

On the clothes front, I'll have much more access to B & M shops (hooray, because I am trying to stop myself ordering online) - but potentially a lot less money to spend on them!

This is an exciting but daunting time and sad in terms of the many good byes we are saying. Will be nice to have my YLF friends as a constant!

Big move. And fast. Gosh. Good luck! I moved back to the city from the 'burbs three or so years ago now. If anything will have you rearranging the way you style your clothes, that will. Ha! But it will be fun. I've been having fun anyways... ;>

Rachylou's comment made me realise theat we use 'city" in a differenct way to how you do in the US. Currently I live in a regional town, 2 1/2 hours from the capital city. Populations around 10,000 and you almost always see someone you know if you go to the town centre.
I'll be moving to a city of maybe 2 million in its greater metropolitan regions and living in what we call a suburb but I suspect is not quite the same as what you call a suburb. I'll be about 10km from the city centre

Hmm. I need pics!

It's actually really hard to distinguish city, suburb, rural in California, where I am. The sprawl is amazing. When you fly in, it seems like the entire coast is lit up. The rural isn't exactly rural, for example, because everything is industrialised. I categorise using a combination of the urban planning styles, architecture, density, and culture of a given area.

Thanks for all the encouragement and support. I wanted to clarify (because I recieved a concerned PM from a dear YLF member) that this move is basically a good and exciting thing! DH, who currently is a pastor of an existing church, is going to start a new one in an area where his skills and background are very suited to it. Apart from some savings and LSL, he won't be going into this with an immediate salary, which is why my income will become important.

I am something of a slow adopter when it come to change, in fashion as in everything else, and it takes me a while to come to terms with it (for instance the move we made to the regional town over 8 years ago was hard too - but I ended up loving it here) And of course I am a bit daunted by the challenges of packing, moving, saying good bye, leaving my job which I only started in Jan (and love) and thinking of who will take over my many church responsibilities here. But ultimately we think this is the right, if not the easy thing to do.

And I just had a phone call asking me for an interview for the first job I applied for, so I am very excited!

Joy, yes, and this will be an upside to the move. All the grandparents (our parents) live there, and we also lived a good bit of our lives there, until our move about 8 years ago.

It sounds like you have lots to look forward to, Anne, and best of luck to you. We moved quite a bit as an Air Force family and I always tried to look at each move as an adventure. I hope this will be a wonderful adventure for you and your family. So nice you will be close to the grandparents!

Kids adapt quickly, and you will have family support on hand too.

Thanks guys. The youngest child is quite excited about it all - the oldest two have moments of this too, but are mostly sad. They can't remember living anywhere else, and have good friends here. People keep telling me that it will be easier for them at their ages than if they were older, but of course they can't really appreciate that! And I moved at the same age as DDnearly10 and found it pretty hard.

Having family nearby will really help. We are trying to give them lots of chances to see their friends before they go and are letting DD10 had a birthday party even though it isn't her year for it.
