Slight OT - About the Nexx blouse - laundering caution

Good morning,

Just a quick note to let you know that following laundering instructions on the Nexx blouse might not be the best thing. I did hand wash with delicate soap, as indicated by the label. The texture of the blouse changed completely, the brushed silk texture is gone.
I just wanted to pass along the info.
The blouse is dry clean IMO. Silk is not really washable, I should have know better.
I wonder if others have gotten similar results.

That stinks! If the result is not to your liking, you might want to send it back to Nordie's for an exchange. I would be annoyed if I ruined a shirt after the first wash.

I would contact Nordstrom - if you've followed the washing instructions provided, I think they should replace the blouse. Now I'm wondering if this also applies to the J Jill silk blouses?

Silk can actually be washed, so the instructions may not be incorrect, just missing some key information. When you wash silk, the hand will completely change. Most often, it feels more like a raw silk. Any silk that originally had some structure or stiffness to it will lose that quality once washed. The silk isn't ruined, just changed in the way it feels and drapes. It would be very helpful if the laundering instructions gave a heads up about that outcome.

Yes, I had the same result. Will be dry-cleaning the Nexx shirts from now on!

I wash all of my silk blouses and this is the first time I have seen such a dramatic change in texture!

Grrrr! How frustrating to follow instructions and get those results!

I've always been suspicious that they stick "Dry Clean Only" on so many labels out of laziness and to protect themselves from the unstable fabrics they used.

Here they instruct you to hand wash!! I'd contact Nordies sure sure.

P.S. Eileen Fisher was notorious for putting handwashing instructions on her pieces, then right after that saying "for best results dry clean". Needless to say that meant if you wanted to retain shape and size, you better dry clean

Thanks for posting this before I tried to handwash my Nexx blouse! I'll try dryell. I just can't cope with getting stuff to the dry cleaners....

I think some silk can be handwashed; I've handwashed my rougher woven silk Equipment blouse without a problem. (Ironically it was dryclean only) But it doesn't have the smooth texture of the Nexx blouse.

Zap, as you probably know, Nordstrom has a great return policy. I think they'd take it back even if you hadn't followed the laundry directions. No questions asked.

You all have me thinking I'm going to return mine, too. It doesn't look NEARLY as nice as it did before, even after steaming and touch-up ironing!

I am calling nordstrom. I did not iron but I'm pretty sure the change in texture is permanent. Total bummer.

Wow, that sucks. I would definitely call in that case.

I hand wash silk shirts often. And I've never had that experience. I think if you pay that price you can expect better.

I just spoke with Nordstrom.. I will be sending the shirt back for a refund. I am not replacing it. The dry cleaning bill is getting kind of crazy as it is.

Isn't that crazy? I hand wash my dry clean only silk blouses all. the. time. and they come out great. And then the one that's labeled "hand wash" gets ruined when I actually hand wash it.

Zap, what a bummer! I know what you mean about the change in surface texture, from a previous laundry mistake I made. Rae, what is the Dry-el method...now that I have two Nexx blouses?

OT: I can't stand scratchy labels and I had to cut out the one from the blue blouse, but not the cream one, because that one was soft and unnoticeable! Weird.

What a bummer! I saw this issue mentioned in a couple of the reviews on Nordstrom. I am going to just get my Equipment shirt dry cleaned. Thanks for the tip and sorry you all are having to deal with ruined shirts.

Ugh, what a bummer. I'm glad you are getting a refund for it though. This would be a deal-breaker for me - I refuse to buy dry clean only items that I wear and need to clean regularly. (I pretty much dry clean only coats and formal wear these days.) I hand wash most of my silk items with no problem (although I did have that one pair of slouchy pants that disintegrated ...)

Vicki, Dryel can be found in most laundry aisles nowadays. You spot clean any stains first. It comes with a zipperd bag, and you pop your clothes in with one of the Dryel cloths (kind of like a thick baby wipe but with dryclean agent on it). You zip up the bag and put the whole bundle in the dryer for 20 mins. Kind of like a steam clean, I guess. Then when you take them out of the dryer the clothes are fresh again.
