sleeveless trench - what do we think?

For $35 it would be worth a shot with the DIY. I rather like the look, sort of substitute for the military jacket or vest. I love the military look on others but can't pull that off with my broad shouldered frame. This might work for me. Thanks for sharing!

It looks cute with the striped sleeves, but honestly I've never gotten why you'd want a rain coat with no sleeves? I guess in this case it's not really for rain, but a long vest.

Extremely impractical for my climate, but not a bad idea for AZ, TX, FL and NM.

If you are prepared for it to function as a decorative layering piece, it will work any climate. This is for Team Maximal.

As a coat it looks good but too fashiony for my taste (look at me - I can't think straight!)

I do like it as a dress where the DIYer wears the Kamali trench over black sleeves. But then, that's a lot like the new trend of contrasting sleeved coats (the grown up version of the varsity jacket)

I love the look (say, over skinnies or over a pencil skirt, for indoor use), but I have yet to find one that would work for me.

I don't know. It doesn't make sense to me, honestly. And having said that, will have to go get one obviously. LOL

Very astute observations Angie - thanks for chiming in.
I guess it would be impractical for our climate as well, unless I could find a way to wear it indoors. I don't think I could shell out $35 for a new trenchcoat to in turn go around and rip out the sleeves, but I can try thrifting one. Perhaps a shorter, peacoat length would be best. What do you think?

I really dislike this... the trench is so iconic to me that the missing sleeves are really jarring.

I'm on team always cold so I'd prefer my trench with sleeves. If I want to layer in the heat, I'd wear a vest which is less material and shorter in length. When it's cold out, you'd have to wear a long jacket so the trench doesn't peek out. They are super stylish though! If I were in a hotter year round climate when I don't need an outer layer, I'd be on top of these.

I never got this until I saw it styled this way. I love vests, and seeing this done this way...I just may consider it...It is perfect for the transitional weather here- cool in the AM, warm in the afternoon...

When just reading about it, I was all wondering what possible sense it could make. Seemed silly to me.

Then I saw photos. I think it is super cute and would totally wear it. I tend to run warm, so here in Seattle where we need layers vests make sense for me. I'm going to hit some thrift stores to see if I can find a trench and DIY this.

I really like this idea! But I think as Angie's suggests it work better as a layering piece, or I could see myself wearing it as a dress over skinnies. Keen to see if I can thrift a coat and go DIY! Thanks Bella, I haven' seen this look before.
