Skinny jeans - who makes the best?

Hi all,
I brought home a pair of JCrew matchsticks, all excited with my YLF-approved purchase, and when I tried them on, I was horrified to see that from my side profile, I looked like a turkey drumstick!

Help - I am 5'3" and usually wear a 6 petite. I have 2 pairs of David Kahn bootcuts and LOVE them but I was trying to avoid paying David Kahn prices for the skinnies. Are there any brands that you've had success with and are flattering?? Thanks everyone!

I just bought the MIA style at Express last night, while I was shopping with Sihaya (what fun we had!) She recommended them and they were indeed a great find. They are mid-rise ultra-skinnies, available in a few different blue rinses (I got the dark wash; sadly they don't come in black) and are very comfy.
I'm an hourglass, usually size 8, though I might have actually bought these in a 10 but can't be 100% sure and am at work so I can't check.
They do not look flattering with shorter tops on me; I bought them to wear with dresses and long tunic tops.
Might want to give these a try!

Don't be horrified. The Matchstick jeans do not work for everyone.

Ooooh Antje or Sihaya, would you mind measuring the front and back rise of the Mia jeans for me please? I was thinking of getting a pair for boot tucking season.

Sorry for the unhelpful reply Laura--I am also seeking reasonably priced skinnies. I have the Matchsticks as well and although I loved them at first, my love has worn thin. The rise on them is just ridiculous and they are pretty stiff.

Laura, I can't wear the matchstick either (even though the sales people insist I look "amaaazing" in them ) I haven't found a lower price alternative but I just ordered J Brand from revolve clothing online. If you haven't ordered from them before, there is a 30% discount on your first order if you call customer service after you place the order (or order through customer service). I'll let you know how they work.

Dani, I am totally dying -- "amaaaazing" -- yes, if you find turkey drumsticks to be attractive!! Anyway ... I am sure there are plenty of people who look great in them. I will check out the Mia jeans and let me know if how J Brand works out. Meanwhile, maybe I should look into more of a straight leg.

I have the J Brand white skinnies and I love them!

Laura, maybe the turkey drumstick thing comes more from the width of the knee and foot opening. I have muscular thighs, and while I can't avoid this look totally, I've found that a 14"-15" leg opening (in actuality a straight leg jean) is much more flattering than something that is ultra skinny.

Hi ladies - thanks for the great advice. I returned the matchsticks and brought home a pair of Mias that fit MUCH better. Maybe I needed to get used to the look? Now the challenge is on to find something to wear with them!

I'm glad I read this thread. A pair of straight jeans to wear as skinnies is on my wish list for the fall. I have a few things to try on when I go shopping with my sister on Sunday!

Just for the record I love my Matchsticks. Just goes to prove that each body is wonderfully unique. I'm glad you have found something that works for you, laura65. I'm thinking of trying Express when I look for a pair of skinnies to wear under boots.

Angie - can you give some premium skinny suggestions for pears? I was thinking of going down to Nordies and trying on the Paige version but if you have experience with others I'd love to hear about them!

Laura, great to hear that the Mia skinnies from Express worked well for you. What's interesting is that for me, both the Mia and the Matchsticks work; they look differently and I'll wear them with different tops, but both are wearable. It just shows how individual the matter of fit really is.
