Thanks, abc. I know you're going through your own style shift at the moment. It's interesting the similarities and differences we all have. I'm attaching below another graphic you might find helpful once you adjust it for your goals. It's from the small notebook blog as well.
Sterling, I'm always looking for your pearls of wisdom...so DO come back to add your two cents, please!
Beth Ann...sustainable excellence sounds like a campaign slogan! We'll see if I can live up to it. Now that you make me think about it...sustainable is a very good goal for me at this time in my life. I do feel that I could dress from my closet within these parameters for a couple years if I needed to. (That was in no way a 2 year commitment to SYC!)
Aida, that's it exactly. You do such a fantastic job of dressing with intention each day, even though you're not going to an office. That, to me, is the goal. And yes...there is most definitely some boho in this 70s girl:-)
Yes, Carole! Regular WIW pics are a total game changer! I agree with you about not striving for killer outfits every single day...what I want to hit is my version of high happiness factor while looking stylish enough to be ready for whatever my day may hold.
Firecracker...I think where you have settled so comfortably is perfect. It feels like something in the dressy casual/casually dressy realm that really seem to suit you and your life so well. It's interesting that it sounds like your transition dipped into uber-casual for a bit too. It almost feels like an adrenaline release and then a re-group.
I agree, Unfrumped. It's her thought process/reasoning behind the dressing shift that really resonated with me, even though you and I might achieve it differently. And you're absolutely right about travel. I am planning quite a bit of travel in the not too distant future, and it is the comfortably dressy look that will carry me through. In fact...part of my criteria is "could I wear this to fly first class to Paris without a) the flight attendant asking to double check my seat assignment or b) being the slightest bit uncomfortable or rumpled?"
Thank you, Angie. Yes, for much of it I can shop my closet and remix. However, you know me by now...I have done some shopping. I will say that it has been very "intentional" shopping with these looks in mind. I have added a few bottoms (black and gray knit, and black side zip) in the comfortably dressy category. I have replaced a couple pairs of casual pants that just looked too tired. I have added a couple blouses (both from Anthro). I have ditched every.single.uncomfortable.shoe in my closet. I've certainly added some, but I've worked very diligently to evaluate each one to be sure that it would be my FIRST choice for more than one great outfit. I also totally appreciate what you said about ditching the tee shirts. I also (Not shown!) pulled the pics of outfits I did not like. Many of them featured just regular tee shirts. As much as I want to look like Jennifer Anniston in a tee shirt and jeans, I just can't pull it off;-).
