Should I stay or should I buy? ETA: YES Please help accessorize!

Two years ago I bought a knit dress in merino wool, in gray, and I still love it. It is versatile, very easy to dress up and down. I feel really good in it and have worn it a lot. Last year the designer released the same design in several colors, among them red. They became so popular that she has had produced even more dresses which is in store this season. It is now available in black and red only.

Today I discovered that there only are two dresses left in my size. I feel a strong desire to pick it up, but I'm also reluctant: Is it boring to have two identical dresses of this type?

#1: The red version
#2: Me in my gray dress

Thanks in advance - any comments or advice are appreciated.

ETA: I'm going to buy this dress! A very convincing response here helped me decide, and the small discount makes the investment easier, too. Now I hope to get help from you ladies to accessorize it, particularly for Christmas parties. Any ideas!

I have red woolen fit&flare dress like this that got a lot of love here on YLF. I wore it in zillion different combinations. It is worth its weight in gold. It was pricey, but also my first proper purchase since discovering YLF and I just knew it was the dress not to be left in the store.

I went and bought identical one in grey wool within weeks as I could see how much potential the red one had, but the quality of the wool wasn't the same so back it went.

Then, in the spring sales the purple one came up in my size... and I snatched it without second thought! My favorite dresses ever.

ETA: Just two random old WIWs with my dresses... oh dear, I miss dressing up for work...

I'm with Ornella on this one Ingunn - definitely YES!

First of all, the fit of this dress is beyond gorgeous on you. You have worn it alot and feel good in it. After seeing how fab you look in your red coat, you know the colour will be lovely. They are a very versatile style and you will get tons of wear out of it. It's not boring at all - it's smart shopping IMO!

Well, at least see if THIS red is YOUR red. The dress is stunning on you, and red has a very different feel than grey. This type of dress can be accessoried up the yin/yang (or left plain.) You can layer under or over. You can wear booties, boots, pumps, sandals, even flats. You can wear a jacket or not. You can wear lots of different tights. It is just fab.

Thank you, I feel encouraged already! The thing is, I've entered this dress as my ticket in a lottery the shop arranges tonight. One can pick one garment from the entire inventory for a chance to win it. If I'm VERY lucky, I win it, but more likely, I will receive an email with a small discount on this dress tomorrow. Anything helps!

I vote yes too! The silhouette looks amazing on you, and we all know that red is a fab colour on you;-) This type of frock can be dressed up or down in so many different ways, so it possibly won't even feel as the same dress depending on how you style it, especially because the colours are so different as well.

Fingers crossed that you win the lottery, but the small discount will be fun too;-)

Oooh, fingers crossed for you! That is a gorgeous dress---the structure! the simplicity!---and I actually don't think they'll look like twins in the same pattern simply because the colour reads so differently and will likely lead you to different accessories.

Thank you for all the boost, ladies! I didn't win the dress, but at least I got a 15% discount, and that helps. Tomorrow I'm going downtown, and I recon I'm going to bring this lady home with me. I also need shoes for it - black pumps are a no-brainer (and I already have that), but what else could I try?

I LOVE this dress - so glad you are getting it - the fit is wonderful and the colour gorgeous. Some ideas for wearing it: statement necklace or gorgeous cuff bracelet and heeled black booties; sheer patterned black hose, black pumps and piles of pearls. Whatever you do it will look super!

I expect at least one of your jackets should work with it. Also some of your sweaters, overtop, to casualize it (if desired). For dressy, Missvee has good suggestions, as does Ornella. Grey will also work as a shoe/ boot colour.

I was thinking grey or silver shoes would be a no-brainer too,as would tan or nude booties. Or maybe green or dark purple feet if you want to add more colour for the festive season.
