About your wardrobe and personal style

Shopping for the next season .... oh God!!

I'm rebuilding my wardrobe for the next season, separating what is old or don't fit anymore from the pieces to keep.. but I'm thinking I have choosen a bad year to do that because when I enter the stores I feel like I have fallen into a time machine.. everything is so dated, so 80's, I see everything I have already used when I was 13: light denin, 80's pants (high waist, volume on the hips, narrow on the bottom .. to create the "icecream effect" I'm always trying to avoid), lots of glitter, super super mini skirts, baggy denin shirts, ripped jeans and tights...

I'm looking for jackets, a trench coat, a bag, shoes, boots, nice blouses, pencil skirts, 1 pair of jeans and it has been frustating... I have already looked in Zara, H&M, Massimo dutti ( a store I love but this year everything is so bohemian), Mango..

Well at least I think I'll save a lot of money eh eh

Oh it's awful when that happens especially when you are desperate x

I think that you just need to wait a bit longer, rute. Late summer/early fall seems to be a lot of trendy looks geared toward teenagers and back to school shopping. I think the more traditional fall looks are coming.

I'm noticing the same thing. I'm trying to hold off until after all the teeny-bopper stuff is out of the way!

I had the same problem last year when I needed to get all new stuff because I moved from San Diego to Seattle..I was freezing to death and everything in the stores had short sleeves!

Hi Rute, Have you tried the major department stores like Nordstrom and Macys? I am thinking that the big department stores might have more basics and classic pieces. Also, have you tried Banana Republic?

Have you looked at Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Talbot's, your local version of VonMaur\Dillard's\Younkers, Nordstrom's, Macy's?

I know there has been a flurry of activity on the forum about Fall shopping, but I think the retailers are still saving the best for the last. For example, JCrew still has not put their true Fall collection out, Talbot's is holding off too, I know you are in Portugal, but I bet if you wait until Fall actually starts, you might find more variety than what is available now.
I have not spend a dime yet for my fall/winter wardrobe, and so far I am glad because there will be a lot more good stuff as the season starts.

Thank you jewelrygirl for the suggestion, but I'm in Portugal and we have not as much choice as you.. you have such nice online stores (we have two..). I even considered buy form the US, but the taxes are high..

I feel your pain Rute. I hate it when my style is out of synch with seasons trends. I think this fall there is to be a return to lady like elegance and more classic dressing, hopefully these trends will filter through to stores in the next few weeks.
