Shoes & handbag: Too matchy-matchy?

I know that shoes and handbags no longer *have* to match... but what do you think is it preferred now that they don't match or does it not matter if they match or not? Pictured are the particular shoes and handbag I have been using together for several days that have inspired this question. I have a classic style so avoiding frumpville is important. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

They look nice together, they don't match but coordinate! I like it. They are very subtle though. For me, I would really have to punk up the rest of the outfit. How about with colored skinnies and a white or chambray tunic?

I think they coordinate nicely without being too matchy. Some of the effect depends on the rest of the outfit, too.

I wear shoes and bags MUCH more matched than that.

Yay. They coordinate, rather than appearing as a matched sets, as they might have looked in the 70's. Neutral and classic.

Thanks everyone so much for ringing in! I will continue to wear this combo and make a point of tying a scarf on this bag to give it that "something" it seems to need so badly. I did thrift another tan handbag this AM (i dont know whether to be happy of feel frustrated and out of control with my shopping!) and it has a lot more character so it might become my tan go to in this combo if i can get the shoulder strap for it figured out! Everyone is so helpful and lovely here, thanks again!
