Shoes for baptism? - YouLookFab Forum

One of my best friend is baptising her daughter next Saturday, and I'm the godmother! So honored.

So of course the big question - what to wear?! Since I'm nursing my new born I don't have many choices, needing something that can work for nursing situations!

I bought a nursing dress while still pregnant, hoping it would work for post pregnant body, and luckily it does. My friend is not very traditional and we don't need to be too dressed up, so I think this dress can work (basically it has to since I don't really have much other options!). But, it's a tricky brown colour which I never wear, so I'm not sure which shoes to wear with it! Would love your help!

Also, does the necklace work? I don't have much jewellery but wanted something with this dress... And you'll have to imagine some make up and styled hair! AND I will iron the dress!

#1-2 Grey shoes (with a hint of blue)
#3-4 Brown shoes
#5-6 Black shoes with heels

Do either shoes work at all? Worst case I could look for a new pair of shoes during the week, but I don't want to spend too much... Personally I like the look of the black shoes but I basically never wear heels so I'm least comfortable in those... And being godmother I'll be on the "stage" and reading a poem, so I'll want to be comfortable! But also looking as good as I can, of course

Pretty dress! Can you switch to nude hoisery? Then you could go with either of the flat shoes without breaking up the leg line in such a defined way. I like them all but, like you, the polished look of the black tights with black heels is my slight favorite.

The dress is really pretty on you. I prefer the heels of thes pictures however I think the first pair of shoes could look really good with Tina's idea of nude hose. I like how the shoelaces pick up the color of the dress.

Ha! My first thought, upon reading your title, was.......but they'll get wet!

I see now -- it's not your baptism. And you're not going down to the river.

Now that I have a better grasp on the occasion, lol......

I also like the idea of the heeled black shoes with nude hosiery. I think a black belt at the waist would also be lovely, if that's not too constricting (I was funny about things like that while breast feeding). The belt would also read as "jewelry" along with your necklace -- which I think is lovely. Alternatively, you could add a scarf, particularly if you opt to keep the black tights.

I think you've ticked the most important box -- you look relaxed, but appropriate for a very important religious service. All eyes will be on that baby! I love seeing the Godparents up with the family --- my parent's friends were such an important influence in my life, and I know how important my friends are to my own kids emotional and spiritual well-being.

Go with the black shoes and nude hosiery. The other shoes are very nice but don't coordinate as well with the dress.

Thanks all for the input! I like the idea of nude hose - I'll buy a pair next week! In that case I'll probably go with the first, greyish, shoes, to be most comfortable, hoping that'll work! Will probably return with more pics before deciding! Like the idea of a belt too, I don't think I have a black one, but I have a couple of different brown ones, so I'll try with those and see how it looks.

Ha Beth Ann, I see how you'd think it was for my baptism! What a lovely description of your godparents and other close adults, I really hope and will do my best to be such a positive influence in her life!

Yes, my vote is for the grey over brown. The grey feels fancier.

Congratulations. This is an honor. You will also probably be in lots of photos. I like the idea of nude stockings with either the black or brown shoes. Be sure that you feel stable in whatever shoes you choose. You do not want to fall with a baby or lit candle and there may be some steps.

I like the idea of nude tights and the grey shoes, too. Pretty dress and necklace! You could also add some arm candy if you want.

I think nude hose I'd good idea and ig will change the look of the shoes, so maybe try them all again!
