Shoes for a maxi skirt?

My parents bought me a beautiful blue maxi skirt from Jaipur (India) this summer and now that it is warming up again, I would love to wear it. But I'm not sure what sort of shoes to wear with a skirt like this - ballet flats/sandals?

I would also love some suggestions on how to style this maxi skirt? I didn't like it much with the sweater, but I would love to try it with my orange and mustard tops.

I always have a hard time with this. Sandals are the easiest, but sometimes I would want to wear something a bit warmer, and I feel like ballet flats look a bit strange. Although that may have just been my particular shoe/skirt combo...

I think this sweater could work but it needs another layer/scarf/belt? over the top. Or a longer top, with a cropped jacket or vest? I've seen a lot of cute maxi skirt looks but they have tended to be winter looks, with a hip-length cowl neck sweater and a jacket.

Urgh... I'm kinda hopeless at this. I love the idea of maxi skirts but I always get frustrated when I try to figure out what to wear them with!

This sweater tore, so I'm going to have to try with what I have at hand - a dark teal top, a mustard top and an orange t shirt. I don't have any scarves that aren't printed so I'm worried it might become a little ALGO if I wear a printed scarf. Maybe my black silk vest will work.

Styling suggestions determine the shoes...

Fashion-forward & edgy: A light denim or chambray shirt, knotted at the waist and sleeves rolled. High wedge shoes or sandals. Accessories -- stacked bracelets.

Comfortable modern: A soft slouchy short sleeve tee with the sleeves rolled a few times (secure with fashion tape). Tee is tucked, color would be soft grey to balance the boldness of the skirt. A more modest wedge sandal or flats. If the waist is high on the skrit then maybe add a belt.

Formal: A crisp white shirt, color coordinated belt. Sleeves rolled of course. Angie posted a formal look like this once, I loved it. Heels, clutch. Jewelry -- go with what feels right.

I have a black v neck t and a black full sleeve t, both of which would work well with the skirt
I also love the idea of pairing it with a soft grey t shirt or tank, I will be on the look out for something like that.
I have a denim shirt as well, so I l will try that too.
I haven't found my perfect white shirt yet... so that one's going to have to wait. Angie works that look SO well!

I think I need a pair of wedge sandals for summer! They would work with my other skirts as well and with the dresses I plan to buy

What a beautiful skirt! And Denise's suggestions are all brilliant.

From my own closet... hehe... I'd try nude patent wedges or flats, a tank, and a teal shrug.

I think a simple, strappy flat sandal in congac or a metallic. Since you are so covered up on the bottom, it would balance things out if you showed some skin on top. Similarly, since the silhouette is full on the bottom, something fitted on top would look good. I can't wait to see what you come up with. It's a beautiful skirt!

I don't own a single pair of sandals Claire, so I'm going to have to do a little shopping before I can style this the way I have in mind Thanks for complimenting it - India has such beautiful colours and prints

Kirti: Sandal shopping is fun! I have twice as many summer shoes as winter shoes because they tend to last longer and are less expensive (especially since I have peasant feet that fit inexpensive shoes). Also -- what about t-shirts with a wrap/surpiice front? This would be simple but echo the feminine quality of this skirt. Also, do you have any woven cotton sleeveless or short sleeve tops? This is a great year for them in the stores.

BTW -- this skirt was made for dancing. And twirling. And dancing.....and twirli......

Beth Ann: In that case, I really hope I can find the perfect pair of sandals! I don't have any sleeveless or wrap tops (yet), so I'll keep a lookout for those, I'm sure they would get a lot of use in summer!
And yes! The first time I wore, I couldn't stop twirling!!!

strappy sandal would look darling with that skirt which is made of such beautiful material. I think a simple tank top with it on the upper portion would be stunning!

Kirti, what a gorgeous skirt! Love the boldness of the colours --- especially because most of the Jaipuri prints seem to start with a pastel.

I'm loving Denise's, Beth Ann's and Meredith's ideas. In fact, might steal a few for my monochrome version of long, crinkly skirt So thanks for the thread! Also, would you happen to have a waistcoat you could use as a top? That might work in lieu of a sleeveless top too. Or a fine, boxy white shirt belted over the top, open at the neck over a camisole and your orange bead necklace.

Shoe-wise, I'd also think a pair of wedge-heeled espadrilles would be perfect with this. How good are you with heights?
