Shiny's capsule wardrobe challenge

I'm really excited about this challenge. I love the whole idea of capsules in general, and I love the creativity of this challenge. Just thinking about it this past week has been great.

Here are my 10 pieces and my 5 accessories:

1. Black AT pencil skirt
2. Boyfriend blazer
3. UO Skinny jeans
4. ATL black sheath dress
5. White chiffon AT blouse with ruffle and tie neckline
6. Dark purple AT silk blouse
7. Red suede pumps
8. Black flats with snake-skin cap toe
9. Black and white patterned cardigan
10. ... it's a toss-up between a black 3/4 sleeve cropped cardigan, or a black shrunken blazer. Can I reserve the right to make up my mind as the week develops? Provided I stick to one or the other? The issue is the weather - can't trust the forecasts around here!

Accessories:
1. Cream clutch
2. Black cracked patent bag
3. Long pearl Necklace
4. Black patent wide belt
5. Probably silver studs. Debating here whether I should just go earring-free next week, and instead add a third bag. If I add a third bag, it will be a purple Botkier bag.

My week's schedule and the forecast so far is:

Monday - going to be hot and rainy.
Tuesday - "beauty" evening planned after work: get eyebrows threaded and/or a pedicure (two tasks I must get done this week)
Wednesday - temp drops to low 60s
Thursday - going out to an art opening, one where people tend to dress up; will be chilly
Friday - chilly again... kids are back, so I'll be MOTG again

Very nice! I was just looking at our weather, and I may be able to do this. I will have to spend some time organizing it tonight or tomorrow (and do laundry!).

I forgot yesterday!!! Having a busy week and just completely snoozed on that. When my DH came home, I was already changed into my lounge wear and falling asleep!

My friend is coming over tonight (if work doesn't interfere with our plans) so I hope to have her take a pic of both yesterday and today's outfit... stay tuned...

You've got this all worked out Shiny, impressive!! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

After discussing with VFBF Jane (my photographer!) tonight, I am exchanging #9 black cardigan with H&M black pleather 3/4 sleeve jacket (purchased this past weekend).

Both looks are fabulous, kudos to best friend Jane for aiding you with the task. Have you converted her to YLF yet?

Posted 5 months ago

Shiny.. you look stunning!
Love both outfits.
You look amazing in black!
Everything is perfect, the shoes, the bag, the cardigan, the belt, the blouse! You are a 10!

Thanks!

Rose, Jane is a frequent lurker who sometimes chimes in on the blog as "Shiny's VFBF." She attended the Boston YLF tea party - you can see her (with blurred out face) on that blog post.

Shiny, you look amazing in both outfits. However, there was no doubt that you would look fantastic in what ever you chose.

Day 3:

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....009046.jpg

Note that for item #10, I decided to opt for this new F21 pleather jacket, which I picked up this weekend. (And I'm sticking with silver studs for accessory #5, will only use two purses this week).

So day 3 outfit:

3. UO Skinny jeans
6. Dark purple AT silk blouse
8. Black flats with snake-skin cap toe
10. F21 pleather moto jacket

Accessories:
1. Cream clutch
3. Long pearl Necklace
5. Silver studs.

Question: Does a cami count? Even if it's not supposed to show, just to add warmth? Because it got chilly today and this morning I was cold! It's starting to heat up but I'm wondering for the rest of the week?

So far this is my favorite combo... what do you think?

Posted 5 months ago

Absolutely fabulous outfits Shiny. My favorite so far is Day 3.

Posted 5 months ago

I'm in agreement, day 3 is my hands down favorite so far. You ooze style, girl!

Posted 5 months ago

Oh la la! You look amazingly stylish Shiny. I can't decide whether I love the dress or the cardi/blouse/skirt outfit better. Both are fantastic. I especially love the navy collar on the dress, so unexpected yet lovely. Kudos to you for doing the capsule challenge.

Gorgeous ink blue and black, looks very striking against your hair! The jacket is wonderful.

Posted 5 months ago

You have never looked better :) These styles are a bit different and evolving for you..everything about your outfits....from color to style , length and silhouette work for you.

Posted 5 months ago

Oh I love the day 1 outfit! Ink blue and black looks wonderful on you!

Posted 5 months ago

wow, I love every single outfit. You really thought this through. I am kind of making it up as I go along and the outfits are of course not quite as glamorous as I would like or nowhere near as cute as yours.

Angie, please forgive me but I think I prefer this BF jacket belted!!!

Posted 5 months ago

The jacket certainly does look good belted. Great week shiny (Love those shoes, too)

Posted 5 months ago

Wow Shiny, you look gorgeous! Every outfit is amazing, but I am especially fond of #3.

Posted 5 months ago

There is nothing to forgive, Shiny! You can show off your waistline in a boyfriend jacket. It looks as wonderful belted :0)

Posted 5 months ago

Gorgeous Shiny! You are an inspiration to me!!

Posted 5 months ago

LOVE #3, Shiny! Exactly an outfit I want to imitate when dressing postpartum. I may go for cotton in the top for washability, but that looks so classic and so wearable.

And that colour is perfect on you.

Posted 5 months ago

Thanks Ellen (and everyone else). I also really like #3, Wednesday's outfit. I am thrilled to have found this pleather jacket at F21: it's exactly the look I wanted, and who can beat the price. It's thin enough I could put a winter coat over it too. And the zippers on the elbows are just so darn cute.

I also felt 100% fab in yesterday's outfit. I may have discovered the secret to belts! Typically I find them uncomfortable. But I wore it up higher than I normally might - practically on my lower rib!! Despite how that sounds, it worked. Even after eating a huge mexican meal! I was perfectly comfortable, because it wasn't digging into soft flesh of my waist.

I will also be combining the sheath with the AT top again... I really like how that turned out, with the collar layered over the neckline. I wouldn't have thought to do that, if it wasn't for this challenge pushing me to figure out a way to wear a sheath dress two different ways. That, and Angie's recent blog about combining ink blue and black, were my inspirations.

Will post today's outfit (the last in the challenge) later tonight, after my photographer gets home from her swim meet.

Fantastic!!! I love the outfit. So chic! I love that you belted the BF jacket. Very clever. And I like play of two shades of black. Can't wait to see Friday's outfit.

What a great challenge! I've enjoyed seeing all the ladies posting their "capsule" wardrobe outfits.

Shiny, you look fabulous (of course!). :D This latest outfit is very chic. I especially like the contrasting lining on the rolled up sleeves.

Posted 5 months ago

Shiny, I've been watching your week but not able to post much. Day 3 was my favorite. That look is so now. But they've all been really great. Nice job!

Posted 5 months ago

I wear belts in that spot too often, out of necessity because I am so long waisted that most belt loop are too high for my natural waist. It is encouraging that you can't tell you are wearing there in the pictures - it looks great!
