I hadn't heard, but I was wondering how it fit into the gap, especially now that they own intermix. It seemed sort of out of place, not as fashion forward as intermix, and without the brand identity of ON, the Gap or BR

Well, I'd rather see Piperlime go than Athleta or Gap! I rarely purchased anything from Piperlime, maybe once?

Deb - honestly I have to say good riddance. I ordered a faux leather dress. I spent about 30 seconds in it, it was cheap material, shoddy workmanship, ill fitting, just awful. I packed it carefully back up and sent it back the next day. I got a very divisive email from piperlime saying I had clearly worn the dress and that they would credit me back but they would not do that in the future. I was furious. I had bought several things in the past year and returned them all because of poor quality. My gut told me that their "free shipping" and returns dept did not like me because of that. I got customer service on the phone and literally let them have it - timeline, quality etc. Well my record was expunged and I got, of course, my credit but I never used them again. I never had a problem with gap, ON, or athleta - better quality and awesome customer service. So sorry - but good riddance piperlime - challenge zappos? not in this universe!! For any ladies in mourning over this forgive me but the story is a cautionary tale.

I'm not surprised. I have not ordered from them (even with the coupons they kept sending me) for over a year. I hated their search feature (could not sort by price), rarely found things that were a good deal and I was sized out of most of their clothing. I found a few shoe deals over the years, but not a lot. I do much better with Amazon and Lord&Taylor these days.

I found out yesterday they were closing too.
I am actually sad they are closing. I did order a fair amount of stuff from them , not their line or lower priced-lines, but contemporary designers and premium denim. They used to have good sales with extra % off, so I could afford some Theory and Vince-type stuff for BR prices.
For example, right after NYE I snagged a pair of Okalas for $20!

Huh. I can't say I'm surprised. I have gotten some good deals from them but they always seemed in a bit of an identity crisis. First trying to be zappos with the shoes (but stock/selection was way too limited to compare), then shopbop with the designer stuff, and most recently some weirdo combo of designer and house brand fast fashion (maybe trying to be Asos?). I guess none of the identities took ... In all cases I think there was an obviously better option available.

When they appeared, in theory, I liked it, just for having another option for shoes and then for having access to many clothing brands via the convenience of the trusted Gap website. But then... everything was always a bit overpriced (what is competition good for if it doesn't bring prices down?), there were rarely any promos, and as some have noted the website was just not very user-friendly. It was such a good idea in theory, but in practice just not appealing given other options to be found elsewhere.
I do hope they can rescue Gap itself though. It's been in a crisis for so long. I remember finding amazing things at Gap 15 years ago--quirky prints and colors, sleek basics--people would compliment me and be surprised when I told them the items were from Gap. I wish they would find that sweet spot again. I think they have to stop playing up "dress normal" for marketing, and start A) improving their basics B) adding some spice.

I will miss them. I've scored some of my favorite shoes, boots, and clothing on deep discount from Piperlime and never had any problems with returns. But I agree with Diana - they seemed to be trying to change their identity quite often. One thing I didn't like was that so many of their sale items are final sale. I was pretty careful about that, and sometimes just lucky.

Oh what a pity. I found several interesting things there especially one of a kind patterned tops. They have a lot of things that Stitchfix sends at lower prices (poor quality though)

Darn, I'm kinda bummed. I feel like Diana summed it up well in saying they were always changing things and never quite hit the mark. However, I was very intrigued by the latest reinvention. They were doing a collection of designers based on trends and I really enjoyed their picks. I don't think the site had its own brand though (did it?) so any quality issues would have been from the designer that made the clothes.

What?! They did have some interesting items and I guess I'll have to hang on to my one dress purchased from Piperlime. I also just learned that the American Eagle store, at South Coast Plaza, is closing and they are consolidating stores. That's sad news for the SA's who worked there.
