JulieJohn suggested we have a YLF Ball (virtual of course) so I'm kicking it off with a Save the Date. On New Year's Eve I'll kick off a thread for us all to post our YLF Ball ensembles.

This Invitation is open to all. Get ready to post your dressy look for the year (real or fantasy). Posts can be something you actually own photographed on or bedshot, something from an ad or an inspiration board. No limits.

Angie/Greg I hope this is ok (not officially sanctioned by YLF management so to speak).

For inspiration I offer 2 of my alltime favorite ballgown looks. I love the black and white and the full skirts.

Oh boo, I will be on a plane on NYE, but I might try to put together something with my silver ball skirt before i leave! (This will be truly a fantasy look, as I tried on that skirt last week and let's just say I can't take a deep breath in it.)

Jeanne, I'm so pleased to get my invitation, I'll be there! I'm thinking of something red, maybe taffeta with a velvet bodice. I'm going to get my hair done at the beauty parlor, because I've always wanted to do that. Maybe a french twist, with some drifty curls hanging down! I will carry a clutch purse, I will rustle (virtually) when I walk, and I will smell terrific. Is it a catered affair? Will there be a live orchestra? A disco band? I plan to sip sparkling apple cider and dance the evening away, dreaming of the beauty and bounty of 2013!

Ladies, thanks for the invitation! We have just decided to spend NYE quietly at home as a family (that's me, DH & Master 9). Were thinking dinner and a movie and now I have a reason to swan around home in something glam:)

Oh I love this idea! Since our annual Christmas Ball has been cancelled, I don't have a special reason to get all dressed up this season. But I do now!!!

Shannon, I might do both! We always stay home on New Year's Eve but there is no reason I can't dress up to stay home. Although "ball gown" might be going too far.

JJ yes catered of course. Live music and a dj to close out the night for the real partiers. Come as you are or come as you'd like to! All are welcome. I'll be home, but am considering dressing up for it too. Why not?

May I bring a plus one? Vivaldi prefers to wear the fur coat she was born with, but she loves to get her photo snapped.
I'm going to SYC for this, as I have a pretty cocktail dress I'd love to show off.

Here's where I tell you about the treasure I found when I was in my early 20's. A famly friend had been going through her elderly aunt's things stored in the attic. She came upon a bundle of letters, and one of them was this aunt's letter to a friend, with a description of a New Year's Eve Ball in VIENNA sometime in the 1910s! The letter included a description of the gowns, the dances, the young men vying for places on her dance card, the refreshments...wish I could remember the details. But in my virtual ball imagination, that's where I'll be!

For our virtual party, I will probably wear a full tartan taffeta long skirt with a simple top (black velvet?). If I get to take pics, I am going to try for a Carolina Herrera look with a white shirt and the long raspberry shantung satin skirt I wore as a matron of honour in my early 40s--I'm still waiting for a dressy enough occasion to try this for real (but MAYBE Christmas day, I'll be singing in church).

For the real NYE, I have a "casual church" party/concert to attend, so probably a glittery gold vest over white shirt and jeans, with black blazer and either booties or my grey tartan Cons, depending on if our snow lasts; or if others go dressy I might try my black sparkly coat-length tux over red pants and a ruffled blouse--I'll post for comments some time, not sure if the proportions will work.
