Reason 94 for smart casual dressing!

Because you never know when you might run into an old boyfriend!

Very funny that I ran into my old high school/college boyfriend in an out of the way grocery store this weekend. I hadn't seen him since our 20 yr reunion, five years ago, and certainly wasn't looking to run into him.

Now, the weird thing is that after 21 years with my darling husband I am not looking back at this guy but after we chatted and went on our way it occured to me that I was happy that I looked pretty great that day!

I was wearing - dark wash jeans, pewter slip on gladiators, dark green longish tank and stone gray cotton cardi. Simple about town grocery/errand clothes but still I had felt confident and good that day leaving the house.

How shallow am I to feel good about this lol? We have a 25 year reunion coming up this summer and I will be seeing tons of old friends soon.

I don't think it's shallow at all, Chris -- good for you!

When you see someone you haven't seen in years, and you only run into each other briefly, you each infer a lot about the other person's life based largely on how the person looks. Of course appearances can be deceiving, but in a short catch-up, we don't get much else to go on. If the other person looks disheveled, run down, or past caring about their appearance, it's easy to form the impression -- true or not -- that all is not well. In your case, "looking good" probably sent an impression that you were contented, happily married (to a lucky man!), and that you respect yourself. Nothing wrong with that.

Are you excited about the upcoming reunion?

Thank you April! You have put my feelings into words precisely.

The reunion should be fun - very casual this time and I am pitching in on a loose planning committee. One day is picnic and the other is evening light dinner/cocktails. Makes outfit planning a breeze at least (no formal wear!).

Facebook has been great place to catch up on long lost friends so hope most folks will show for one event at least.

Yay, Chris! Not shallow at all -- confidence and self-image are tied together, and I'm glad you felt good about yourself and the encounter :)

That is a GREAT reason to look good, even for running errands. Thanks for posting that- I'll remember it the next time I think "it doesn't matter-it's only store, post office, whatever."

You never know when you are going to run into anyone- so it really *is* a good reason for always looking nice. He's probably eating his heart out right now. ;)

Great story! I often run around looking like a haggard mom... your story is a good reminder that we never know who we might run in to!
