Purple Frye Oxfords

I am a serious boot gal, but after much deliberation I decided my shoe splurge for fall would be these purple Frye oxfords...

They just arrived and I am in love! The only issue now is what to wear with them. Can I get away with treating them like a neutral, since the style is so conservative? Or should they be the focus of the outift? The color is actually deeper purple than the photo, so they are not necessarily going to draw the eye first.

You could either go with a really neutral outfit, or one with lots of color that would work with the shoe color- mustard or gold, dark green, ink blue, crimson....

Those are FABULOUS! The color is to die for (I'm addicted to purple). I would wear them with dark bootcut jeans and a teal top. IMHO, purple is absolutely fierce with teal. I also like chewy's color combo ideas.

Try it with red - I love the combination and it is of the moment.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to which colours you wear them with. Treat them like a neutral and just WEAR THEM. Arty, hip and individualistic. I love mis-matched styles.

Thanks, Angie and everyone else! I'm wearing them today with grey trousers, a black shirt and purple cardi - but I have more exciting plans in store for them. Teal sounds like a great idea. The eggplant color is to die for and they are comfortable as can be. I had to size up a half-size for width because they are narrow, otherwise they supposedly run large. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone jumping on the oxford train!

I am swooning over the fabulousness of those shoes! I agree with Angie -- treat 'em like a neutral. I carried a bright purple handbag all summer long and you'll be surprised to find that purple goes with almost everything!

I don't like many oxfords but I love those. I think it is the heel that makes the difference as opposed to a flat. It looks a little more feminine. Would love to see a picture.

I've been debating the Frye Taylor (short cowboy boot with a heel) and they come in that eggplant. I'm not sure I can handle it, although it is very tempting!

Tarzy, it really is a very lovely neutral purple, and might tone down the "cowboy-ness" of your boots, if that makes sense.

Alaskagirl, I ordered both the eggplant and the cognac but they are 2 different sizes. I think I'll keep the cognac because it fits better. The eggplant hardly reads as purple at all. Very high quality.

Alaska - thanks! I was sort of thinking the same thing about the color. I am drawn to the simple, classic lines of the Taylor boot, but I'm not really a fan of anything too cowboyish. The cognac color is also killer, though. Decisions!

I'll see if I can get my act together and post a photo of them on my feet. They make me feel all cool, like some sax player leaning on a lamp-post in another decade. Weird how shoes can cause time travel!

I was confused about the sizing so I ordered 2 different sizes, intending to return one of them. I'm ususally a 9 in Frye shoes and boots, but the 9 in this shoe was a bit large and made my feet look like boats. The 8 1/2 fits better. Maybe I'll actually wear them today since its cool enough outside. If I do, I'll take a picture.

Okay, my morning appointment cancelled so I used the time to take photos of the oxfords. LOVE THEM. The second photo is without flash, and a little more representational of the true color.

The heels are perfect for the shoe, too - not obtrusive but still substantial.
