PSA: Brooks Brothers Trench available in small sizes & sale ends Wednesday.

I don't know if you've been following Rae, Claire, Una & MNSara's posts about the Brooks Brothers Trench. From what I read on YLF they were pretty much sold out of most sizes. Online they only had khaki size 8. I know at Beverly Hills they have a khaki size 4 & other khaki ones. I didn't check all sizes as my car was in a one hour zone. They also have navy. I bought both in size 2 & will post pics in a new thread when I can. They also have a size 2 in khaki at Century City.

Ooh, big fun! Waiting with baited breath. Very curious how the 2 fits you, since it seems like we are pretty much the same size.

Rae the size 4 didn't look too bad, even without layers. But then the 2 didn't look too small with a tee & blazer so I got the 2. I could have gotten the 4 & maybe should have but I wanted it too look snug like the Burberry when I compare them tonight.

I'll be watching with interest, Elle. I have been debating off the forum with Claire about the advisability of trying one and which size and colour. It's a great deal -- but I am afraid to guess on the size, and I have to order into Canada, and I am travelling tomorrow.

I am not even sure which colour I would prefer.

I'd love to hear how it compares to the Burberry.

Suz what are your measurements? Maybe Rae & Claire & I can help you. It seems we are all similar sizes. If you are wavering between 2 sizes I found that either a 2 or a 4 would work for me.

I have joined the band wagon and ordered khaki from a store over the phone. I didn't see navy on the website and missed that as an option.

Yes...we're similar. I am about Rae's height (5'4") and the Brooks Brothers petite shirts are too short for me. But Claire wondered if a petite coat might be a better fit on me because I'm short-waisted, and she has a point.

Shoulders are about 39". Bust is 32 or 33. Waist 25. Hips 34. Roughly, I mean.

Elle, were there more 2s in Beverly Hills? Maybe I should swing by since I'm off tomorrow and double-check the fit?

Suz, I think you should go with a 2, since I have a 34" bust yet we wear the same size Danier jacket. Do you have any BB shirts? If you do, I would go with your shirt size.

Edit: oops, just realized you said there were more 2s in Century City! Ignore me!

Rae, that's helpful. I am wearing a 2 in the tailored shirt. And yes, you are much curvier than I am in the bust for sure!

Suz maybe a petite would work. I am long waisted. I think a 2 would fit you. I'm not sure what my shoulders are but my other measurements are bigger than yours. But if you can order both & then return do that to not miss out.
Here are pics before I even try so everyone can make a decision soon.

The warmer pics are in artificial light, the cooler ones in low natural light.

I don't think any of my pics depict the khaki accurately. I think Claire's pic is better. It is more brown IMO. It leans towards a dark taupe more than a dark khaki though. It is a cool medium to light brown.

I'm off to try mine on & sit on the bed to see how cat hair likes the navy one.

Rae I'm not sure if there were more 2s in BH but there was one at Century City. I think there was only one though so call & get it held for you.

Also I think the fabric is comparable to the Burberry London, without having one here to compare side by side. The buttons & belt buckles are also comparable. The construction, though good isn't as good as Burberry but probably good enough. The zip out wool liner is something Burberry don't have. The length is comparable. The collar stand is smaller, which isn't preferred but not too small & one could pop their collar to gain height for a long or cold neck.

Suz I think the colour is taupe enough for you & a size 2 would fit. Go ahead & order. You can always return.

Yes...I have to find a store that has one, though...and it's all closed up here now. Tomorrow I fly to NYC. But I may have time tomorrow to locate one and have it sent. I will see! Thank you for all the advice!

Derwin was very helpful at the century city store. They have black and beige in a 2 reg. I ordered both a 2r and a 4p due to my short waist.

Suz - can you have it sent to your hotel? Don't know how long you are there to receive and return from NYC.

Brooks Brothers regular shipping has been notoriously slow for me, but they participate with Shoprunner which offers free 2-Day shipping and free returns.

So here are pics of the coats on me. Other things of note - the buttons don't go as low on the front. Does anyone know if that is a problem with wet & or windy weather? There is only one spare button in that size but if you could get one from BB you could take to a tailor to add another row of buttons to make it more like Burberry. I sat on a fluffy blanket that the cat sits on in the navy & it did get on the coat but not badly. I think that amount would happen to anything navy. I think it would come off easily.

These pics & comments are to help those deciding whether to buy or not. I think Rae & Claire's coats are K2K. I haven't seen Sara's. Now that I see the quality of fabric & construction I stand by that. Any comments where I say Burberry is preferable is just my opinion & only because I think Suz asked. I need to make a big decision on whether to keep Burberry, BB, both of them in a different colour or both BB so I will post the pics in a new thread with pics of my Burberry. If I say the Burberry is better it is only because I bought a top of the line one already & it is hard to go back once you've had that beauty in your closet. If I tried BB first, I would have probably just got that.

Rae either way I think you're good because both the 4 & 2 looked good on me, which is unusual for 2 sizes to work. Also if you call in the AM when they are not busy, it wouldn't have sold as they were closing when you called right?

I ordered a 6--normally I used to be a 4 in most coats but I think I've gotten a little bigger in the bust and belly postpartum.

What the heck?! I called them just minutes before that, and they refused to look. Same store, I never talked to Beverly Hills as they were closed. That just chafes me the wrong way. I sure hope my original SA would get the commission on an exchange...

But anyway, back to YOU, Elle! Sorry for the hijack. I couldn't help but do a split screen... Burberry on the left, BB on the right. I am impressed at how similar they look overall. In fact, I think I might possibly prefer the colors of both BB versions.... however in the light colors, the Burberry fabric seems like it might be draping a smidge better. Hmm... gotta let this sink in for a minute.

Rae the fabric in the Burberry Prorsum I'm wearing in this pic is a heavier stiffer cotton, similar to a Coach one I tried, which is also good quality if anyone isn't happy with the BB. It wasn't the right fit for me. The fabric in the Burberry London or heritage line is very similar to the BB. I'm embarrassed to mention this but if it helps anyone, the Burberry pictured here cost more than 10 times more than the BB. Rae the colour in my bathroom isn't accurate. But you know that you have one. It is a cooler colour. I am a Deep Autumn in the colour systems or just Autumn in some. Some systems say I can wear black & some don't. I think navy is like black. Most say I can't wear cool browns, just warm ones. I wish I could tell the difference when I drape all the coats in front of my face. I can't see any change.

I dislike color systems, because I think skin tones are so varied. I can wear both warm and cool colors and enjoy mixing the two. Since I have not met you in person, I don't know, bit maybe you can wear some cool colors, too. It seems in some photos that you may have more pink in your skin than cream or gold, which is what I found for myself.

Rae my skin is golden peach. No pink at all. I think it is the lighting but I agree to a certain extent. Lighter warm colours that are supposed to work on me, including beige, sand colors, don't look as good as dark colours near my face. Pastels, whites & neutrals that are light don't flatter me, not matter which colour family they are from, though cool ones are worse. I need deep colours near my face. The warmer the deep colours the better.

Elle, honestly why not go with the navy bb and forget the Burberry? That might be a load off your mind. Fwiw I'm a deep autumn/winter and I can wear navy.
