I recently posted that I was returning my Camerons in Missouri wash, but I got enough positive responses about them that I re-opened the shipping box. I love them styled up!

Here's the thing: DH was not excited about these, even though he conceded that he likes them better than my Gap jeans (hey, he's never going to love the loose look). I also have to plan for funds for the Danier, on the off-chance that it fits. And one of my goals this year is to avoid duplication in my wardrobe. So if the Camerons stay, my light wash SBFs will probably have to be sold.

I have done some side-by-side comparisons here - Camerons have the rips and the booty shot. Pros:

Longer length = wearable unrolled
Rips!!
Slightly more fitted = less trendy, more DH friendly, more longevity?

Are the Camerons a significant upgrade, worth extra work and some sacrifice?

Edit: Rips do NOT limit wearability in my life, and they have been a staple for me for years. I also have dark wash SBFs that are super baggy and not distressed.

I hope I am not beating a dead horse here, but I am feeling more stingy these days after buying some new work clothes and earning less money than I did at the Rack.

Hmmm...

I have a bit of a poison eye for massive distressing, mainly because it limits where you can wear them. But if they make you instantly happier than the Gap ones when wearing, then I think that is an important consideration.

Okay so you can't wear either of these to the new job, can you? And if you don't wear them around DH, they would be for......YLF meetups?

I have a slight preference for the Camerons because of the length and the fit on your thigh, although I realize the point is not to have them *fitted* necessarily. Rear view is nicely slouched as well (and great with your new linen T!).

The rips make them look more trendy to me and less versatile than the SBF's. I think it all boils down to whether or not you/DH like them better. I think they look great styled but not necessarily better than the SBF's. From my vantage point, I prefer the unripped jeans. Of course, I told DD the other day that I'm not shelling out $50 for destroyed high waisted short shorts. LOL.

ETA: You will wear these so they look intentional. I think as long as you keep these paired with your usual fab sense of style then they will be great. You are right, they do fit your style and you will probably be able to wear them forever.

I really wish you could keep both. I know that's no help, but they are not comparable in my mind. The distressing is fab and if I lived where I could wear it more, I'd get them - in fact, I'd still be considering it if they weren't gone.

If you have to choose, I'd keep the SBFs which are more wearable in a variety of situations.

Rips actually don't limit wearability here in LA, outside of work. I can't wear blue jeans to work at all, so they're even steven in that regard. I feel like rips are more "classic" for my personal style because grunge is a huge influence. I will wear rips forever, but I can't tell whether I will want lots of bagginess forever.

Claire, I DO wear my BFs with DH plenty. He's made it clear he's never going to love it, but the Cameron's are better for him.

Yes, exactly. And what will getting rid of the SBFs accomplish, since I can't imagine they will fetch that much $ for you? Bagginess is so much fun, and so is distressing - there is room for both, right?

So, take this with a grain of salt. I do not much like distressing to the point of rips. I think it seriously reduces wearability. While it can be styled to be very trendy, I tend to just find it sloppy. Now remember, this is conservative me we are talking about here living in the midwest not California.

Also, neither pair is a favorite of DH. I understand we have to do things for ourselves, but it sounds like you already have one pair and could return the second for a full refund.

So, it really comes down to budget and your preference. Both look good on you, but the ripped pair is less versatile IMHO. DH doesn't like either of them. Can you be happy with the pair you currently have? Does it fill the slot in your wardrobe you want it to fill? If so, return the other pair and use the funds toward another wardrobe purchase.

Well, I can get maybe $30 for them, but every bit counts. Most of my Ebay items are like $10 items. I think it also feels wrong for me to have three BF jeans. I am definitely keeping my dark wash SBFs, which are totally baggy and also conceivably wear-to-work-able, if my situation ever changes.

Okay, then get rid of the lighter SBFs. That way you have a baggy dark wash and a ripped faded look. And don't ask how many of these *I* have. I hoard them like Gollum.

Hmm, I am conflicted. On the one hand, I do have both my ripped-up MEK jeans (full-length, not very baggy) and my SBFs (short, baggy, darker, cleaner wash) and I think they are not the same at all and I wear and like both. On the other hand, I can wear them to work. So in my situation, I'd think about keeping both. (I think they are both fab on you!)

However, how many non-work outfits are you wearing per week these days, and would you be able to get a reasonable number of outfits out of the TRs in a reasonable amount of time? I do feel like the non-distressed SBFs might be more versatile in terms of numbers of outfits you can make with them and hence lower cost per wear. I know the TRs are expensive....

I definitely find it easier to style my SBFs than my super distressed MEKs, because it's too easy to go too OTT with all the rips and distressing.

ETA: Also, I realize this is not as much of an issue in CA, but I actually can't wear my ripped jeans when it's really cold out because my knee gets cold where the big hole is. =P

I really like them, prefer them to the SBFs. I'm not particularly RATE myself, and even I am on the hunt for a pair of super distressed jeans. These look fantastic on you!

I own both - although my TRs have no tears, and are just faded. (I am wearing them now before I head off to meet a client, in which case I will pop on a full skirt).

Okay. No more rambling. I meant to say that you can't compare the two. I like my Gaps. I LOVE my TR's. Better fit and quality all round. I bet the extra length may have something to do with it too. My TRs are full length. The Gaps are cropped.

I vote TRs. They are SO RAE.

I think you should keep the ones you love more and let the other pair go. Happiness factor is so important!

I'd keep both. You're not going to get much for a used pair of Gap SBFs to really offset any significant percentage of the True Religions.

I like the new ones best in every comparison and rear is still cute considering that it is non-fitted. However, I would only keep them if you want to wear them to the end of their life. If this is a look that you will only wear for a year or two then I think the Gaps are good enough and I would spend my dollars elsewhere.

I currently have 2 pair of what I consider BF fits on me. One is the TR Cameron in Vera Cruz, a medium solid wash (no rips so I can wear them to work) and the other is the distressed Vigoss. I feel these perfectly round out the BF capsule.
I think one distressed and one dark wash is a varied enough BF capsule if you are looking to not duplicate unnecessarily this year.

It's a draw for me. I love the Camerons - and you have to understand when I say this, I never wear jeans, and grunge has never been my style - but these are relaxed enough to be cool, but fitted enough to show your enviable figure.

The draw is that you already have a pair of jeans that are pretty similar in the other photos, that look great on you as well, and of course, there are your budgetary considerations.

Practical Me says in her Hermione Granger voice: there is always another pair of cute jeans, leather jacket, perfect shoes, etc. just around the corner. The Camerons aren't the last pair of super-cute jeans you're going to see in the months to come.

Wicked Me murmurs in a sultry voice that the Camerons are fiercely-cute and you should sell the old jeans.

I prefer the TR because I haven't got used to BFs yet. I still like more traditional figure flattery more than oversized & I think your DH & a lot of men do too.

Like Una, I don't think the two are comparable. They both look great on you, but the Gap BFs has the super slouchy thing going on, and the TR Camerons have the baggy distressed thing going on. Which do you anticipate wearing more often? Is the money better applied to the Danier jacket?

FYI, I am jealous of you gals that look so fab in your Camerons! Like a good lemming, I ordered a pair but they look horrible on me :b

I am surprising myself with my vote. I would never in a million years wear something so torn up myself but they look great on you and are so very Rae! If you already have a dark wash non-torn BF I would get rid of the light wash Gaps and keep the TR's.

I 100% vote keep the TRs, sell the light SBFs, and use the darker SBFs if you want a more baggy look. Most likely if it's hot enough for your lighter wash jeans... you'll find the TRs or baggy short shorts better options, anyway. And if the TRs are cotton with no stretch, then I vote for them by 200%

My first pick is to keep both because they are different and both look good on you. But if you have to pick just one, I vote TR. By a mile. They just look like you. And you look quite happy in them!

I am another one who has a poison eye for ripped jeans, yet thinks that TRs look fabulous on you and you should definitely keep them. They are quite different from the Gap BF ones so whether or not you decide to sell those would be a purely budgetary consideration.

Seriously, thank you for every single opinion. Even if I didn't come to the same conclusion, you all brought up very important deciding factors. It took forever, but I am coming back to share my verdict... the SBFs are up on Ebay, and the TRs are in my closet, 'till denim disintegration do us part.

Diana/Ceit/Kelly/Thistle and Aida argued on opposite sides of the versatility factor, and it came down to the fact that I live in SoCal. I've seen ripped jeans in super fancy restaurants... they aren't ragged so much as they're rock n' roll. Plus they ventilate and can be worn full-length. Bagginess is much more of an issue because it isn't mainstream here yet. Hollywood loves bodycon.

Scarlet advised to decide based on longevity - would I wear the TRs to the end of their life? I've had my last pair of super distressed jeans for 7 years, and I still love them to pieces. Great distressing = true love for me, while super baggy may or may not be a fling.

And of course Angie reminded me of the quality factor. The fabric and button fly on the TRs totally remind my of my 2002 Lucky jeans, which wore like iron. I do have to say I prefer their cut as well. I'm always checking out jeans, and the right cut with the right rise in the right fabric in the right wash with the right distressing does NOT come along every day, especially with light washes.

So there you have it: I'm going to have to take a deep breath and go on SYC (for real this time... this year it isn't about control or willpower but about the actual budget), but I think it's worth it. I know it seems crazy to many of you, but an upgraded slouchy and destroyed jean is a reasonable investment piece for this UWP.
