prom dress help :D

Hello all,

First post! so yeah I just recently bought this dress online for prom. It is a very simple dress, dark green (favorite color!), velvet, and has a formal slip dress kind of look.

I'm not sure how to add a photo of the dress. I'm not sure if I should wear it as it is or embellish it with rhinestones, lace, or like appliqués?

I think I do want to add more, but I'm afraid of messing up the dress!

Pretty dress! Have you ever embellished clothing before? If not I wouldn't recommend using an expensive dress as your first attempt. But, you could add a sash or belt and embellish that instead. Or wear sparkly jewelry. The dress is very lovely even if you decide to keep it simple.

hey lol the dress cost $52.00 including shipping and handling haha I have never reallh embellished clothing using rhinestones or lace. The dress is so simple I'd love to wear it more than once so if I choose to add something it won't be too much! thanks Meredith

An embellished sash or belt like Meredith shows... brilliant IMO! Beautiful dress. I think it would look great with a sash like that.

I like the idea of an embellished sash! I would leave the dress be, I love the simplicity of it. Or maybe add some great jewelry?

I think gold and green looks really rich together, but both metals will match. Do you like one more than the other? You might want to see which embellishments you want to use first. When I'm in the craft store I find some rhinestone and bead colors look prettier than others and your selection could influence the jewelry you want to wear.

I like the idea of a sparkly statement necklace. I'd hesitate to embellish the dress itself. You can add lots of sparkle with jewellery.

Do you look better in cool (silver) or warm (gold) tones? What do you usually prefer? I'd choose jewelry depending on that, I think both would go well with the dress. Maybe not super shiny silver or gold, I think the green velvet calls for some more matte metals. Think antique jewelry - maybe not the style if that isn't your thing, but when it comes to materials. I'd also go the more matte/luxe route for a sash, so no shiny satin and bright sparkly rhinestones, but matte texture, pearls, embroidery... Something like that.

I love the dress just as it is! I think it would look very old hollywood with a big crystal necklace and gloves, if that's your thing.
