Possible Nordstrom sale purchases - what do you think? (long)

I'm crawling out from under my rock and finding that I really want to go SHOPPING! Also, I'm working on a grant proposal and wanting to procrastinate. Browsing the Nordstrom sale I found a bunch of interesting possibilities. I'd love your opinions. Advance warning: 12 items, lots of links.

Angie recommended this, the style looks flattering, and I love polka dots. Anyone have experience with the sizing on these tops?

Another Angie recommendation. I've never been that taken with gladiator sandals, but somehow the look of these seems really nice. I could quite use some comfortable sandals for walking in the summer. Has anyone tried these and can comment on the comfort?

1. In my experience, Sweet Peas run small.

2. This would be fabulous with a (p)leather jacket.

3. I also have proportionately broad shoulders, and I tend to avoid this kind of bateau-neck style.

4. I like the print, not sure about the higher neckline combined with sleevelsss (see reason in #3.) Also, you mentioned dry clean only being a problem...

6. To me, linen looks so rumpled so quickly, I tend to avoid it. Gorgeous color, though.

9. LOVE (and Beth just scored one for me at her Macy's -- woo hoo) but it looks like it's only in XL, Medusa.

11. The lighter color without socks would totally work in summer.

12. I also want these, so I'm biased. I love the knotty style, and the leather looks very soft. (Not on sale, but Zappos has them in a fabulous turquoise shade...)

1. My sweet pea top from our swap is one size bigger than I usually purchase I vote size up one.

2. That's a lot of ruffle, do you have a long neck to peek out from the ruffles (I forget how long it was as we were in warmer weather wear and not turtlenecks that day) if you do vote get.

3. I think this top would work with broad shoulders. But how is the band placement? I find these tops do not hit my waist in the correct spot. If the band will work, I vote yes. It's really pretty.

4. I love this top, my favorite so far of the bunch. And I remember that great green one from the swap, I think this will work too. I vote GET! And I've had success hand washing silk tops.

5. I vote pass, unlike above which was only silk and can be handwashed to avoid dry cleaning this one is a blend and I would worry about shrinkage for hand washing. I'm not a fan of dry cleaning tops especially in summer when each wearing means a trip to the dry cleaners.

6. I vote pass, again cannot hand wash this material (that I know of). Personally I find linen itchy too. I do like this color for you though.

7. I like this one, but I stopped buying non BB shirts. I'm spoiled by their non iron shirts as I do not like ironing.

8. I vote get. I've had mine since NAS, LAST year. And it is still going strong.

9. I like this but sateen means it will be shiny right? Do you want a shiny coat?

10. I do not know this brand but they are fab.

11. I love Cole Haan shoes but would avoid patent loafers for summer/hot days. They will not give as much as a leather shoe would.

12. I do not have these, but have a gladiator pair from last year by Cole Haan. Despite a lack of arch (because they are such an open sandal) I find them quite comfy for walking days.

I haven't a clue about anything else, but I bought the Sweet Pea top, and based on my experience with other Sweet Pea tops (as well as the size info on the product page), I went with a medium. They are quite form fitting.

#1. I agree with others to size up a size with Sweet Pea tops.
I really like #4 ands #5 for you.
#8. I have two of these and suggest you size up. The sleeves are quite fitted. I would usually wear an XS in a Halogen top but in this cardigan a small fits over something sleeveless and a medium is best for layering for me. The fabric is a light weight wool and a nice weight.
#10. I have MizMooz Histeric Oxfords that look very much like these. I usually wear a 7.5 or 8 M. In these a 7.5 fit and still left room for light weight socks if desired.
The rest I don't know enough about to comment.

If you arent' sure about the colors of #4, the loose blouseyness (is that a word?) reminds me of the Hinge handkerchief blouse in Angie's blouse post. Several forum members have it, and it looks really really great. It, and other great blouses are in this post:

#1 I think this is very figure flattering. Sounds like you should size up as per the above advice.

#5 Love it, but Lisa makes a good point about dry clean only for a summer top.

#6 I would pass...dry cleaning and wrinkling issues.

#7 I've tried this on and love it. The side ribbing is a great detail.

#8 I have the winter version (100% merino wool) which I love but think I might have shrunk it when I washed it. I had to size up of this because of the sleeves being too snug. The spring version is a blend of acrylic and merino wool. I did try it on in the store and liked the weight of it. I can't be positive, but I recall that the sleeves weren't as big of an issue with the newer, blended wool version.

#9 LOVE this! Beth, April and I think Vix have this coat. I hope you can find one in your size.

#10 Very pretty and they look orthotic -friendly.

#11 not sure about these for summer.

#12 I think someone on the forum got these. They look like they would make your feet happy!

I have the Sandra Engrish shirt and don't recommend it. Very comfy but it turns into a wrinkly mess by the time I get to work. It is something that would require starching to maintain some semblance of polish.

Hi, there! I am so bad at any analysis, but I am fascinated by the ruffled blouse! Do you think those perfect ruffles stay perfect after laundering? I'd love to see you check it out

Sandra Ingrish shirt seems a better bet than a Dry Clean only one. I hope you were thinking of getting blue!

Have fun - shopping online and in person is my favorite avoidance technique too. . .

Thanks for the advice, everyone! This is so helpful. I did wait to long on the shiny coat, so I missed out on getting my size. Oh well. I decided to order most things, except for the shirts (#6-7) because I think you're right that getting something wrinkle-resistant will be better. I certainly can't keep all of the items I ordered, but I figure I can choose based on what fits best. Prepare for lots of photos once all this arrives!
