Possible new Winter Boots - YouLookFab Forum

I have worked out I need a pair of flat boots for winter - I have black and brown boots with heels, but flats are far more practical and a definite hole. I've also decided Black is the best option because it goes with more in my wardrobe.

Having said that though, I definitely want a pair of brown flat riding style boots eventually - but I like super nice leather for brown, whereas black I'm not so fussy about, so they are going to have to wait until my budget isn't so tight...

Today I found this pair at Big W for $80, they are real leather which I think seems pretty good value for money (especially considering all the others in stores that I really liked are $200+...).

What do you think? They fit really well, so my only concern was that they may be too tight with skinnies, but then I realised they had little elastic vents, so assume there is enough give there to accomodate skinnies... maybe?

I couldn't afford this straight away but I could layby them - I kind of feel like these will be my best chance of getting flat winter boots due to my budget, but don't want to buy them if everyone thinks they suck LOL

This is the one from their website - not really front on, but you kind of get the idea - they are fairly plain.

I didn't think to get a front on pic - cranky 3 year old with me and getting the two I got was enough trouble LOL

The more I think about them, the more I like them though.

Get them when you can Theresa! They look simple and elegant (something I very much appreciate in boots;-) and I think you're going to find them very versatile.

Oh I love them!! I think they are great... the leather is plain, but I think there is enough other detailing to keep them interesting (like the curve at the top and the pull tabs), and that really is a great price for leather! I think you would get alot of wear out of them for sure!

They're great. They fit well and I think that vent will make them work with skinnies.

I like them! The clean, simple design will go with everything, and I feel good about the elastic vents. You never know until you try them with some skinnies, but I think chances are good.

Love them Theresa cant beleive they are from Big W! They have some nice shoes there in general at the moment and looks like they have some similar boots made by Grosby and they look a little shorter (may be more suitable for my 155cm height). I think I might have to go there this weekend.........

Well, I'm SUPER excited - I just went and put them on layby!!! They were the last size 7's in my little local Big W, so I'm really pleased I went today

Puffenstuff they did have quite a few other pairs of shorter ones there (I didn't look too closely at them though), and there were a lot for around $40 ish... I'm quite surprised how many pairs of Big W shoes I have/like... Actually, a few years ago I bought a pair of the biggest possible kids shoes and they are still going strong 5 years later and often complimented LOL

Thanks for all your opinions - at first I thought they were a bit plain, but now I realise that is a good thing because they will go with so much more.

Can't wait... hopefully I should get them next week or the week after

I really like them! Simple is good, they're elegant and they'll last a long time without being dated. It's nice to have classic riding boots, then you can get a fun pair when you can swing it.

Wow - they are fabulous! I may have to go in and have look - all the boots that I keep seeing that are leather are around the $120-$200 mark. That's a bargain.

Oh and as an added bonus, I just received the email telling me my new spec frames have been shipped from the US and should be here late next week!!!! then just to get the script checked and lenses put it!

Theresa I went to try these on in Big W today and my stupid calves were too fat to fit into them - boo hoo!! Tried on some of the other ones and they did fit me but they had a big elastic gusset at the back and looked a bit weird. Happily I picked up a pair of tan low wedges anyway so at least my trip wasnt wasted!

oh what a bugger Puffenstuff I do have slender lower legs i think...

I saw those ones with the huge gusset and thought they looked a bit strange too - actually I saw a girl wearing them with crazy bold striped socks and a really odd outfit so I'm not sure if that jaded me on them a little bit too LOL

Glad you got some shoes though - they had so many nice shoes that I was quite surprised.

I am actually thinking of getting mine off layby on Tuesday (a fortnight before I planned to) because we have so much rain at the moment that I could see myself using them a lot right now!
