I posted earlier about a job interview that I'm going to.

Please excuse how dreadful I look. And how creased some of the clothes are - some were scratched out of the donate pile that is yet to be donated!

Your comments and suggestions will be much appreciated! Also - need advice on hose colours. The only pair I could find for the pics here were shiny, blackmail. I'm thinking I should either wear shear matt black or opaque.

I need a pair of black pumps!!!

Hil, I'm sorry - I missed the type of job you are applying for...

For an interview I think I prefer the more structured looks of 1 or 5....I agree that sheer black hose might be best.

Do you have a topper that works? Or maybe it is not the kind of position that would demand that level of formality.

(Suppressing my worry that you are giving up work you love to take on work you won't love....)

1 and 5 I think are best. Sheer hose too. This is in insurance, right? Did you get a sense how formal the company is?

How exciting Hil I really like #5. While #1 is structured, I don't think it's particularly 'you' and I am concerned you may not feel comfortable in it. You could go with either the boots or pumps which a nude or sheer black hose. I might wear a necklace like what you are wearing but longer (but that is not deal breaker of course). #5 has the structure and 'smartness' required but still IMHO reflects you.

I like 4 and 5 equally. The colour of the tops is very flattering to you.

I don't know what kind of job but unless you are going into a less formal place I would wear 1. I like the colors on 5 better but in a more conservative environment the proportions might not go well.
Some shear black hose sounds good.
Is that the only button down shirt you have? Do you have some kind of topper?

Thanks everyone... I feel most comfortable in #2 and #5. One is very formal but Deborah and Debra are very correct that I don't feel very me in that that. And the button down is actually very long and it feels all bunchy under the skirt!

I don't have much in the way of toppers - they're all too drapey and casual. The shoes in 1 are brown and I don't think they would work with anything except the brown button down.

Thanks for your worry Suz - that was sweet and made me smile. The fact is I currently work in the same industry and my current work environment is not ideal. My commute to work is at least an hour in stop/start traffic. My bosses can be very sweet but they're extremely tempestuous and I never know what I am going to get on any particular day and they both smoke in the office and I'm convinced I am slowly dying from secondary smoke inhalation. If the working hours and salary are decent and the vibe seems nice, I may be in for a better experience. The fact that this position is only minutes away from my home is a huge plus factor! I also know quite a few of the people there already - ex-colleagues. I love that it has such a strong female presence in a very male dominated industry.

I also like #5 best. Is there any chance you could buy another topper (a jacket or blazer) for the interview? If you don't have one already it might be a good wardrobe addition.
