Possible Doc Marcie replacement?

I'm having to pass on my Doc Marcie boots which I have loved and worn for a few years now. They were the perfect mid calf slightly edgy/tough boot for me to wear with skirts and dresses. I adore how they can take a simple black sheath dress and change the whole vibe. But I can no longer do that heel height

I will be looking for a replacement pair of boots with the same type of feel to it - mid calf, a bit tough, can be worn with skirts/dresses or tucked in skinnies. I have my lovely black patent Ara booties for dressier.

I came across these Ugg boots that have possibilities I think - lace up front like the Marcies, low heel, mid calf. And I know that Ugg's are very comfortable. These aren't inexpensive for sure but I don't mind spending on good quality, comfortable footwear now that I have fussy feet.

I've decided not to pursue anything too chunky like the Fly London shoes/boots I had shown a week or two ago, nor the Frye boots as they are not quite as comfy for my feet.

What do you think of these Ugg boots?

Ooh, I love them Shannon! I think they would be perfect!
I have never tried some of the typical Ugg styles, but I have a pair of 4" peep toe wedge booties and they are insanely comfortable for that height.

Ooh, I love them, especially the buckle and the fringe-y piece on the front. I have no personal experience with the brand, but I've heard they are very comfortable. I think they would fill your "Marcie gap" nicely.

I love these and I love the kiltie on the front, which gives them a really fun kind of vintage edge. Nice.

(Bit of kiltie lore: These little fringed skirts are used on men's work boots like loggers etc., to "catch" sawdust, cement dust, etc. from going up the boot and into the laces. So they have function!)

I really like them, and I bet they would be comfortable. But I'm not sure they're a Marcie replacement... they seem a LOT more rugged. These would be great with jeans, but would you wear them to work with a sheath dress or skirts?

I agree with Elizabeth that they may be too rugged to be truly versatile for you. A simpler casual style might work with a lot more in your wardrobe.

Elizabeth - a LOT more rugged? May I ask how? They are black, mid calf, lace up - all the same elements as the Marcies.

I think they look good, but I have to agree about them seeming a little more rugged than the Marcie's. The Marcies do look just a tad more refined. I can't quite put my finger on it, perhaps the bulky sole? I think to truly work with pants and dresses a little more refinement is needed.

The fringe part makes them look like western work boots to me. I guess it's okay if you don't mind that look. Sometimes those are removable. Are they on these shoes?

Yes, those elements are the same, but they seem to have a more rugged looking sole and heel, and the fringe adds some "down to earthness" to them as well. Being flat also probably adds to it. I personally wouldn't even use the term rugged when describing the Marcies.

I have Ugg booties. They are cute soft warm moto boots. I don't know about these but mine have ZERO support. They are just warm soft shearling over a completely flat footbed. That works fine for me because I don't have really fussy feet. Just something to think about as you explore tough girl boot options!

I love them! I agree that they are a little more rugged...or maybe it's a little more casual than the Marcies. I think it's because the Marcies are so streamlined and sleek while still looking a little tough. These are a little more casual looking with the extra detailing. But then again, I think a lower heel usually looks a little more casual than a higher heel. But that doesn't mean these won't work. I'm not sure you'll really know until you try them with some of your dresses etc.

I like these ones - definately worth a try. Also perhaps the Madden boots from Town shoes. They will get more in over the next few months. I am not convinced that any can withstand the depths of the winter snow but on either side of the brutal months they could work.
Last year I purchased these ones from Aldo (now on clearance). They are likely lower than you are after but I mention them due to comfort. They are absolutely 10 hour boots! You might keep on eye on Aldo as they bring in fall merchandise.

I like them, and I don't see them as more rugged. I do see them as having a tough vibe, with the metal hardware (whatever those things are that hold the laces above the eyelets) and strap. To me, the leather sole adds a bit of refinement that balances out these elements. So overall they do seem like they'd be a good replacement. What modgirl says would give me pause, personally, as I realize I need some arch support in my shoes. But you could perhaps add a heel insert? (I use the Superfeet heel insert, which also extends to the arch.)

P.S. I know Steve Madden had some combat boot styles last year, too.

I had to look up a picture of the Marcie's. To my eye, the Marcie is much more sleek and polished than the Ugg. The heel height, sole and hardware all look more rugged on the Ugg. To me, the Marcie is casual while the Ugg looks stompy. I think it would be difficult to make it work with dresses and skirts. But they would be fab with jeans.

I agree that the heel height compared to the Marcie's automatically makes the boots a bit more rugged. But remember - that's why I have to give up the Marcie's - the heel height.

Rita - thanks for the wisdom regarding comfort. Definitely something to take into consideration, especially with my increasingly fussy feet. I'm actually thinking of buying the Birkenstock metatarsal insole (the same footbed as my Birks which are brilliant for my foot issues) and then taking them with me for any boot purchase.

Glory - thanks for the link. Those boots are fab! But alas, a little shorter in the shaft than I'm wanting.

The general consensus seems to be that these are not for me - will give it some more thought and of course, there's tons of time before I even need to seriously try on any boots. I mean my goodness - it's +30 Celcius today!

I love those boots and agree they seem more rugged than the Marcies (I owned a pair before I had to give them up for height reasons like you Shannon!). The leather in the Uggs looks more rough than the smooth leathers of the Marcies, and the extra details of the Uggs further heightens their ruggedness.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I can see them giving off a different vibe when combined in the same outfits you wore with the Marcies. Only way to know is to try, though!

ETA: Have you considered other lace-up Docs?

Shannon, I was thinking about this at lunch and I was concerned that I perhaps offered my opinion based on, well, my opinion! It would be difficult for ME to wear these with a skirt and I would only pair them with jeans but that doesn't mean they can't work as a rugged option for YOU and your style!

Cciele - why on earth didn't I think of that??? Seriously - there are OTHER Docs I could wear! Good grief - thank you for pointing out the obvious - lol! I adore the comfort of Docs and the width and footbed work brilliantly for my weird little feet. Off to peruse the Doc Martens Canada website....

Check out these Docs. I cannot believe I didn't think of other Docs. Clearly I need more coffee!

(first pic is 8 eye boot and the second pic is the 14 eye boot - if I were thinking of going higher). Both only have a 2 inch heel.

Ok...going to grab an afternoon coffee while feeling positively foolish

I like these boots a lot, but I don't think they are Marcie replacements -- they won't look the same with dresses. The toe shape on its own is part of that. And the Marcies have smooth leather. The Marcies are more like a 19th century woman's boot made current with a wedge; these are more like guys' boots. Both are cool, but different.

Ooh. I think the first Docs might do it. They are still more rugged than Marcy but not as rugged as the Uggs.

I didn't mean to suggest they weren't for you, nor that you wouldn't get lots of wear out of them, just that they weren't direct replacements for the Marcies. Nor do I think the other Docs are either... much as I love them. They are just different. More "stompy" as Susie said.

I'm only beating this dead horse because in the past two years I've bought four pairs of flatish black ankle boots to replace a pair that is wearing out, and they have all been not quite replacements. I wear them, I like them, but they haven't been the same workhorse as the dying pair, because they are all more... "rugged" :). So when I have needed/wanted that refinement, I haven't had it.

Ooh I love them. They have a bit of the same vibe as my "Victorian combat" boots. I think the almond toe (like on mine) keeps them more refined. The only thing I might change about these is that they would be more sleek without the ankle buckle strap.

ETA: it looks as though the toe is a bit upturned. I'd be careful of that as for me at least this can cause major ball of foot pain.

By the way I have the first docs you posted too. IMO they are MORE stompy than the uggs. It's the big lug sole. On me, they're also very deep and roomy bc I have really low volume feet so they look a bit too big for me. I just embrace the stompy.
