Please talk me out of this skirt!

I've been coming back to this wool skirt from a German eco brand again and again. I know that it's wool so definitely more of a fall and winter skirt, but
I think the color would make it wearable in (early) spring too.

It costs rather more than I'm normally prepared to spend on a skirt, but I think it just looks so beautiful! Smooth a-line to the knee in a lovely blue grey... Now it's on sale and I'm seriously thinking about ordering it. I think I'm crazy. This would definitely mean no more shopping until spring and not a lot of spending money in Italy. My sensible side is a bit horrified, but it's itching in my fingers for sure...

Please talk me out of it?

(And god, I need so much new stuff in general...)

It's a beautiful skirt that you will probably own and wear for a long time.
You have been drawn to it for a while and now it's on sale. You should get it, even if it's a bit more expensive.
Then again, less money in Italy may not be great, depending on what you wanted to buy. When are you going?
I'll be in Florence next month and if I remember correctly, February is between retail seasons in Italy and there is not much choice.
Last summer I also noticed that many italian stores often do not stock my size. I'm too tall and big (177cm meistens D-Groesse 40)

Thanks Minnie. I was afraid of that. The trip is next month. I hadn't actively planned for shopping since this is a field trip with some sightseeing thrown in, but it's nice to have the option to spend on something when I see it. But it's just not Italy, it's also the fact that I definitely need some more things to be decently dressed in spring and summer. The combination of weight loss and clothes wearing out has left my closet very bare... That said, my two remaining wool skirts are both plaid and it would be nice to have a solid colored one. Especially as my solid black skirt is done in (Zara, four years old).

It is a lovely skirt, and if it makes your heart sing, do go for,it. If you just think it would be useful I say leave it.

I have to echo the others. I think this is a beautiful skirt, and it looks like it will go with lots of things. I have found that when I keep coming back to an item, that is usually a good sign that it will have a high happiness factor. You should order it at least to try it out!

Thanks Gigi. Good point, there's some shipping cost but free returns. Although I try not to order things that I'm not sure I would be prepared to keep if I like them. And I have to pay in advance for this.

Well, it's pretty but I'm not as sold on it I guess because I think if you truly need several new items in your wardrobe then it may not be the best time to splurge on just one. And who wants to go on vacation feeling like they don't have spending money? Not me. So to me, it would be an easy choice.

Thanks Texstyle. Here's what I need if I want dressing to be comfortable going forward:

- at least one great pair of skinny jeans
- new shorts for summer
- an everyday skirt for spring and summer
- new tees/tops/blouses

And maybe:
- some kind of spring outerwear
- some shoes for spring (oxfords or sneakers or something like that)

That's quite a lot...

That said, I would still have spending money on vacation. Just not as much.

Okay, I just found more or less this skirt (same brand) in my size on Ebay. But in black. No matter, I jumped right in. This could be the replacement for my black Zara skirt. I think I'm not going to order this one but I will go for the second hand option. Hopefully the price stays low.

I'm just about to make a grey skirt in a very similar shape to this one. I made up lots of outfit ideas in my head, and found that I can wear it multiple ways with items I already have. Grey is a really useful colour and looks great with black, navy, brown, camel, mustard, blues etc. I wondered how I survived without it. However, having said all that, my Mum gave me the fabric so the only question was whether I wanted to spend my time on it. Fortunately, skirts are pretty easy to make.

Thanks Dimity. I think there will definitely be a grey skirt in my future, but I have decided not to spend all that money on one piece right now. I need to split that a bit. Hopefully the black skirt from Ebay works out, I could do with a winter skirt that isn't plaid (as much as I love them). And good for you to make a skirt for yourself! I don't have big sewing skills, so a lined skirt with waistband, darts and hidden zipper sounds quite difficult to me when I look at the skirt above.

Thanks Dimity... that Ebay offer came just at the right time. Of course this color is beautiful, but I'm not going to buy it if there's a much less expensive alternative (even if it's black).

Black is great too, really versatile, looks sharp in an all black look or with colour; you can't really go wrong with a black skirt.

Update on the Ebay front - I didn't get it. I'm really annoyed right now because it was definitely a sniper program offering more in literally the last second. Nothing I could do.

It is definitely nice, but save some pocket money for Italy. There's a lot of great shopping at all price points.

Thanks. Although I have to say that my goal is not to buy clothes in Italy. I will be travelling light with just a carryon and we have a full itinerary. I might go for something small if I see just the right thing by chance, but I'm not going to purposely shop to fill wardrobe holes (and that's the only thing I really need to do right now).

I'm sorry you have to do so much wardrobe rebuilding this year on a limited budget. I hope you have excellent luck though and find just the right pieces for just the right price.

Thanks for the commiseration, Alasse and Eva. I've just ordered another skirt on a big sale, let's hope the fit works out. It's a cotton velvet skirt.
