I'm cheating and including two links--but they do go together.

This comes from Male Pattern Boldness, which is a guy's take on sewing, style and fashion.

This first link goes through a typical women's magazine from 1951. Its an interesting time capsule of a totally different era. The 50's are completely outside of my experience and I really only know about it from TV and movies.

A sad day for me. My favorite independent fashion label is now officially mainstream. Issa London, once a very small boutique/resort label, became the "it" label when Kate Middleton named the designer as one of her favorites and wore it for her engagement announcement. Now Camilla Al Fayed has purchased the label. Yes, sister of Dodi Fayed, of the infamous Princess Diana connection.

Not only could there be significant style, quality, and pricing changes, but there's also all this drama now surrounding the label. *sigh* It always makes me sad when an indie favorite gets "discovered." It is like a friend becoming famous. You are happy for their success, but saddened by the cost of that fame.

I hope the Issa label handles all this gracefully.

I really enjoy Jentine's blog, and this post really struck a chord with me. She is 5'11", like me, and she writes about the double-takes and stares she gets when she wears heels. She has a great sense of style, *and* a great sense of humor--an unbeatable combo in my book!

Jonesy, I really liked that link. My whole family is tall (except me) and my mom won't wear heels over a certain height at 5' 10" (she is the shortest of all her siblings). But I have a friend who is 6' and will wear heels whenever she feels like it! She went to China with her hubby a few years back and everyone wanted their picture taken with her. At first they found it funny but eventually it just got annoying.

Why, when the models are not rail-thin they have to pose half naked and fashion editorials suddenly turn porn-ish? Aren't they supposed to be about clothes?

Actually, I think this only highlights that magazines like Vogue seldom are mainly about clothes. (Maybe yes about the need to be desirable or lovable or about feeling power or about creating an escapist fantasy world)
