Playing with proportions in this week's outfits

I gave myself two challenges for my outfits this week:
1. To wear at least one new thing every day.
2. To play with proportions and silhouette (inspired by Imogen's posts this week, particularly the Fibonacci Number one)

The whole set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....35/detail/

Monday: This was about wearing my new ATL vest to accentuate the teeny size of my new waist, and as well as going with a dark cropped piece in the middle of my body. A completely new silhouette that in truth I am not sure I am 100% comfortable with yet.

Tuesday: The cropped style of the tops was a deliberate choice, to better enhance the length of my legs in my new NY&Co long City pants and 4-inch Me Too platform heels. I'm 5'7" and I always tower over all my girlfriends, usually making me feel like a giant ogre amongst the fairy sprites. I really just wanted to embrace being TALL for once. :)

Wednesday: The cool temps this week meant I got to use my new AT boyfriend cardigan, woohoo! (And my new Gap ruffled top.) So I went for elongating my torso as much as I could, and highlighting my hourglass shape.

Thursday: More cool weather, plus inspiration from Shiny's post to finally wear my new ATL yellow ruffled top. Actually everything in this one is new; the pants are brown heather knit from NY&Co, the same style as the black ones on Tuesday but at the regular length instead of tall. The sweater is also new, a volume one from Target. Volume tops are tricky business, but awfully fun and swingy if it works.

So how did I do? Any suggestions for future silhouettes I should try?

Funny, it wasn't until I was entering the info about the outfits in Flickr that I realized how many of the hand-me-downs from my Shopping Friend I was finally able to utilize. Guess I just needed the right new pieces to work with them!

I fell in love with Wednesday's outfit - it's perfect.

Oh my you are looking so slim. I hope you are all done loosing weight. You have a knockout figure.
You look amazing in that boyfriend cardi with the belt and now I want one just like it but they are sold out. I do want to find a belt like that and will keep my eyes open for both pieces similar to yours.

Hee, looks like everyone liked Wednesday as much as I did; that cardi is so comfy and cozy; I kept slipping my hand in the pocket all day.

San, I only have two more measly pounds to go, so no worries about me getting smaller. Believe me, I am READY to be done dieting! :) The belt was actually part of the Michelle Obama dress I picked up along with the cardigan at AT. It is stretch with patent buckles -- and that's a style I've been seeing more of this season but didn't have the nerve to try by itself. I love it now! I think you will see that all over.
Sorry the cardigan is sold out; it was $29 marked down from $98 at the store so I figured it would be long gone online. It might still be a store around, though; can you check their search engine?

I love how you are wearing that BF cardi Kristen :-) I'm still a little hesitant about but you make me regret not having nabbed one when I was there 2 weeks ago! You are SUCH an inspiration Kristen!

Four days of fabulous outfits, Kristen! I love love love the waistcoat outfit, it makes your waist look teeny tiny! Wednesday's outfit is absolutely divine. I love the bf cardigan combined with the dress. You are so stylish and inspiring!

Monday: See, I knew you'd look super in the white shirt/waistcoat combo! The red shoes, necklace and your fantastic glasses are the perfect accessories!
And wow, your waist truly is tiny. You are so slim Kristen!

Tuesday: Fantastic!! The blues definitely work together. I love it! 'Ogre'??!! Are you kidding me!-) A tall drink of water like yourself, should be proud about that!!-)

Wednesday: the boyfriend cardigan paired with the ruffly top looks amazing. Is there anything you cannot wear now Kristen?!

Thursday: I loved the ruffled top when I saw it in Shiny's thread, and I'm absolutely loving it on you. Funny, I thought about suggesting pairing it with purple, but I forgot, and here you are. It's beautiful!

You did FANTASTIC!!

Kristen, you are so amazing at pushing yourself farther and farther all the time. I LOVE how you incorporated Imogen's advice about short/long proportions in the outfit with the boyfriend cardigan - and you look gorgeous besides.

P.S. I finally would up bringing home that red BR dress that I like on you. Funny, it wasn't even on our BR's sale rack or in the store until they started their massive "30% off on sale + additional 10% off for cardholders" promo!

I LOVE the specs you're wearing on Monday. KILLER. Will be back to gush about the rest.

Love wed and Thurs - though that cardi doesn't look as voluminous as it does in your link to the target page - maybe your hand is holding it in.

And you did look tall on Tues!

Vani, the nice part about those bf cardi's is that they really are available everywhere. So if you missed this one, there will be another around the corner. I was very hesitant to try one for the longest time, but then I started seeing photos of them over dresses, and the "penny dropped", as Angie says. So I lucked out and found one in purple.

Dawn, I am so pleased you liked the vest; it raised some eyebrows at work and I wondered if it was too much.

Inge, thank you so much for the waistcoat idea! I'm going to have to invest in a new white button-down now; that one is a little sheer but it's all I have atm. And yes, when I was heavier and looming all over all my shortie friends *g*, I did feel a bit like an ogre at times. So "tall drink of water" is a very nice change!

Kari, I just finally saw the poppy-red BR dress on the clearance rack too at my BR, and for the first time! I had ordered mine online -- it was never in my local store. Enjoy it -- I bet you will look fantastic in it. Word of warning: wear something bold and strong around your neck, to minimize the Star Trek-iness of the design on the shoulders. :)

Angie, hee, I knew you would like those specs. I bust them out for special occasions; the turquoise and maroon can be tricky with all the brights I wear.

Anne, yes I think I was leaning in such a way to de-emphasize the volume of the sweater. It is like a backwards trapeze top -- the back is more fitted but the front drapes outward in a trapeze cut. It takes a little getting used to, but I like it and I love the color.

Kristen you score 10/10! Amazing looks!! I simply cannot pick a favourite!!!

Wednesday is my favorite also - you look fantastic!

I swore I wouldn't do this, but AT had another of those fab boyfriend cardi's in a perfect fuschia/pink for my skin tone, and it was additional 20% off. So now I have two of the same sweaters in different colors. I always do that, and I wish I could break myself of the habit, but I think it's hopeless.

Kristen - you are going to be a tough one to challenge on the challenge chain! You dress so flawlessly. And I get a kick out of hearing and seeing you enjoy your new body. Wed is my fav though Mon is a close second since I'm a total sucker for vests. I love the blue top outfit too.

I'm with Sihaya in loving hearing you enjoy your teeny waist. So fab. ;) All the outfits are so sophisticated. My favorite is the vest one-- get comfortable with it! Because you look gorgeous.
