Pinterest board - what does it say?

Please indulge me my fellow fashion lovers - I started a Pinterest page a while back and I'm very curious for you to see it. For those that have known me for a while on this forum, you know my rubric has included structure/colour/classic/retro&vintage/urban.

Do you see those style elements on my board of things I like and adore? Do you see a different style starting to emerge? Rachylou mentioned last week that she felt my style might be moving toward more modernist. This intrigues me.

I'm just curious to know what your eyes see and what is says about me and my style. I always think other people have a clearer view, you know?

Color is in your rubric - and there are some strong colors on your board - but there are also A LOT of all neutral outfits. And a lot of quite simple/minimal outfits.

I see a lot of ultra feminine looks on your board but interspersed with looks that border on masculine with the straight clean lines. Example, the Jennifer Aniston jeans/white button shirt/pointy dark shoes. I also saw a number of strong metallic accessories such as cuff bracelets and the large chain on the bag.

Very interesting and diverse.

Oooh; I love your board! A lot of things shout out feminine and vintage to me; with strong patterns and bold colours in jewel tones

I see all the words in your rubric - maybe least of all urban but we may mean different things when we use the word. A lot of modern classic in both outfits & accessories.

The thing that I see in your board that I don't see so much in your wiws (I haven't been here long) is a more "romantic" element, details such as flower details & bows & bling.

I think it is difficult to gather a style that is coherent and unique among the images on pinterest. The "fashion" section is largely overloaded with homogenous images.

I love the strong structural elements and natural tones in your board. You seem to gravitate to 3/4ths length sleeves, ankle pants and below the knee hems. Do these work with your body or are you attracted to them for their retro vibe?

I see classic and feminine more than urban and rugged in this board. It's in the colours as well as the detailing. Very interesting!

You DO own some very feminine pieces: your green heels, your red polka dot jacket, some of your dresses and blouses. But maybe this suggests a yen to go further in that direction? Or maybe this is why you had such a tough time getting used to la BF? Something in you was yearning for the feminine? I remember it helped at first to pair the boyfriend with more girly pieces.

The first thing I note is that you have impeccable taste:) Secondly I would suggest that classic is the foundation of your style. You then build on that with retro, fun, trendy elements as you feel so inclined thus creating your own unique style. I am not very good at naming and defining but this was my immediate impression. I see a very eclectic look. Romantic feminine, modern minimalist, and organic sporty are three that come to mind. Looks like you have a bit of a chameleon in you because I could also think of several other adjectives that would be as appropriate as the ones I've picked.

One idea. Do you enjoy expressing different aspects of your personality in different situations.? Maybe you like to be a retro romantic when you go out in the evening but prefer your work wardrobe to be more modern minimalist? What would your board look like if you were pinning images with just a specific role or situation in mind--say work wear or weekend wear. You might be able to see a more distinct preference start to emerge that could help you build a series of mini wardrobes that let you explore the different aspects of your personality in the different parts of your life.

For those of you who also have a Pinterest board, do you tend to pin items that you personally would wear or just ones that you find beautiful and visually interesting?

Without reading the other comments (so I am not influenced), I see a lot of classic items interjected with feminine details like ruffles, vintage elements, and modern proportions and fits (e.g. boyfriend jeans). To me, your Pinterest board reflects your style very well... and I have already repinned from you.

Shannon I tend to pin things that I would wear, but I also pin things that I find interesting and creative and I would like to wear but might be a little outside of my style. I pin them more for inspiration and the hope of perhaps adding elements of those outfits to my own.

I see a definite lean toward structure but used in a feminine way. For example, you don't have drapey things. Definitely color and classic that seems more modern than retro. You might be moving away from retro toward simple modern structured shapes with color.

I see classic pieces worn in fashion-forward ways. There are also some beautiful, highly detailed almost baroque pieces which are not minimalist. But then again there are some minimalist outfits and pieces as well. Both of these style directions are on trend. So once again, I come around to you having and admiring a fashion-forward style. Maybe that doesn't sound like a style though.

My Pinterest clothing board is called "clothing inspiration" so it isn't necessarily what I would wear but it's the overall feel or look that I like.

Is your board made up of things you would wear?

Based on your comments and looking at the pics again, I do see more romantic/feminine details than I would have thought, a big dose of classic, definitely structure (Joy - you're right, I'm not big on drapey for me). I wonder if indeed my style is shifting a bit?

I see what Gaylene sees - eclectic. A mix of almost everything! Pretty board

I only pin items on my ITEMS board that I love and want to wear.

I pin street style on my OUTFITS board that I am inspired by in some way. I appreciate their look.

I pin all sorts of inspiring Yorkies on my YORKIE board.

I pin unusual photos of AUDREY & GRACE on that board - most of the photos are of them with animals.

Just an idea but it may help if you separate the pins into x2 boards - one you would wear & one for inspiration only. My feeling is they may morph after a time.

Shannon, it took me a while to think about this, because I'm not sure I would have known this was you from looking at the board alone. I'm trying to pinpoint (ha!) why that is.... I agree that what you would wear and what you just love and find inspiring can be two different things.

I'm contemplating separating out my board that way too. Wishlist of actual wants vs. looks I love but may or may not wear, vs. things I DON"T love (I can be easily duped that way!), and so on. And a whole separate board for shoes and boots.

I have only one board called "Style" and am thinking about splitting it, like Una. I try to pin only things I would wear (or that I could almost see myself wearing), but it's not precise. A lot of these outfits would probably be too out there for me IRL. I guess I could seperate into "Personal Style" and "Inspiration" or something like that. For myself I'm not sure if creating a wishlist makes sense. I pin a lot of things I see perfectly fitting my style I would never consider buying.
When I see something I like that I know I'd never wear I just like it instead of pinning it somewhere, I accumulated over 200 pins that way.
Maybe it's time to do some sorting... I don't like having too many pins on a board anyway, it isn't useful that way. You don't really look at the pictures anymore later on when you have thousands of pins (not that I have that much!), I think it's a bit like hoarding which I hate.

I like what Gaylene said about your board - eclectic. Also like Deborah's idea of building on classics and going in every direction you want. I agree with Una that I wouldn't have thought of you when I saw some if the pics, not sure why that is.

Eclectic was the first word that came to mind for me, with feminine, vintage, ornate, structured, and classic also popping up frequently. I re-pinned a bunch of things!

You have some superior finds! I'm gonna have to go back and repin - a lot! I'd call what I see 'contemporary' with a fat dollop of 'ladylike.' I don't see retro, except that ladylike is retro. iRL, I've seen more retro in your outfits. And I'm still on about the modernist thing. I found your outfit today (with the Esprit pants) to be modernist - there was a precision quality to it that took it to a different place.
