Photo Viewer Updated

This is a companion update to the one I mentioned earlier this morning about the photo upload feature.

I have now also updated the Photo Viewer -- that is, the popup window that appears when you click a photo thumbnail. One thing this will do is allow you to see the photo, regardless of your window size. That is, the photo will scale when the window gets smaller.

Also, I hope this will help the problem where sometimes people get taken to a separate page instead of seeing the popup viewer.

Please reply here if you have any problems with the new viewer.

Greg, I don't usually have a problem with being taken to a new page when I click on photos, but for some reason I am now. (I'm viewing this page on Chrome.)

Greg, when I view on iPhone I am unable to move the photo. So I can't move it to close it or view a different area. Does that make sense?

morethanbeige, I think what happened is that the viewer hadn't loaded completely before you clicked the thumbnail, so instead of giving you a popup, it just loaded the picture in a new page. You can just press the "back" icon to go back to the thread when that happens.

I'm viewing on my iPhone but the photos are so tiny and I can't enlarge them. You know when you drag your fingers apart and it makes the page larger, the photo moves with the page behind it so the photo disappears off the page and I can't move it. Also because they are so tiny the option to scroll through the pictures is very fiddly, because the arrow is teeny I have to press the side of the picture to make the arrow appear then again to scroll and I inevitably miss the right space and close the photo meaning each one has to be loaded seperately x

I use Safari and this is working fine. My screen darkens and i do have to scroll up to find the photo which opens right at the top of the page. All good tho, just getting used to the change. I have often had pictures opening on a separate page so this is great.. thank you.

It's miserable to try to see any photo on the iPhone or iPad. It's great my computer, but too frustrating to even try to visit the site now on a mobile device.

Greg, it's working fine for me on my PC. Thanks! I'm sharing the same issue as Louise and Parsley mentioned while viewing the page on Safari on my iPhone though - while I can zoom in on the photo from my iPhone, the photo stays centered on the page so by zooming I'm cutting off the right-hand portion of the image. (I'm not sure if that makes sense - I haven't had my tea yet!)

Yes, the viewer was definitely a step backwards on the phone. I have switched back to the previous viewer, but modified it so it detects the size of the screen and displays the picture at a reasonable size. It doesn't scale the picture as you resize the screen, so if you want to see a larger version, then...

- close the picture
- resize the window
- open the picture again

The viewer needs an overhaul to work better in the mobile case, but this right now should at least be as good as it was before yesterday's change. The image is resizable by "pinching" and there are no tiny controls.
