Pears in Pencils?

The pencil skirt is all the rage right now and I am on the hunt for one. I shopped AT and ATL today to see what they had for my pear shaped body. At At, I found 2 that I liked - a dark subtle patterned navy and a black pencil. Both would have to be altered at the waist. I put both on hold. Below is a link to the black, but unfortunately, patterned navy is not on the web.

Then I went to the Loft. There I found a grey pencil skirt that I ended up buying. I don't like the pockets, but since I have to alter the waist anyway, I thought what the heck I can sew the pockets shut. So I allowed the sales person to convince me to buy it. It helped that it had a pretty great sale price.

Now I'm thinking of returning it and getting one of the Ann Taylor skirts. Here are two pictures of me in the grey skirt. In the side shot, I am pulling the waist tight to see what it would look like altered. What are your thoughts?

I agree. It's a keeper. I love grey pinstripe, BTW.

Thanks! The pockets do poof. Can they be sewn shut and look smooth? I think that will be the deciding factor.
