'Party' top - keep or return?

I saw this a few months ago in store and picked it up but didn't try it on. Last week I spied it again and brought it into the dressing room. I find it fun and like the richer fallish colors but wonder about the netted underlaying to 'fluff' it out at the hem. This is likely a holdover from my pear worries, like Janet talked about recently. But then I also like that it gives the illusion of more bust lol. What do we think? I would put it over my grey skinny cords (whenever I find them) with heels and also my black matte satin pants once I get them tailored into cigarette legs.

You always look great and sure, you could pull this off, but I have to say I think you could do better. You have a fantastic figure and this is not doing it the justice it deserves, IMVHO.

My first reaction is that it doesn't read as a tunic, but as a party dress that is too short. Normally, I like dresses over skinnies a lot, but in this style, it kinda seems off.

Should I 'debubble' it or let it go back? It's only $7.50 so I could afford to experiment.

I understand its "bubbliness" (which was not as much of a problem for me as it is for rae, for example). I simply don't like the pattern or colors all that much. But for that amount of money, if you can have fun experimenting and learning, maybe it's worth keeping.

For $7.50, heck! It fits you well and is fun.

I have to say, there *is* something about it that's a little off putting to me. It may be the combination of colors and material.

I'm not loving it either, Mo. It's like a top that wants to be a party dress. Something about it almost reminds me of a bathing suit. It doesn't really say "partywear" to me. Sorry! I do agree the colors are compelling.

Funny, I'm always trying to subtract from my bustline!

I do admit that it is fun. I think my initial reaction was "nay" because it's so different than what I would wear--my filter tends to cloud my view. Anywho, I think if anyone can pull it off, it is you. I see it with a cropped sweater or tuxedo jacket, perhaps?

I like the idea, but it looks like a dress my daughter would beg me to buy her for a dance. That's what I'm seeing--a juniors' dress.

Boy, I'm ruthless! I see so many of my own shopping habits in you Mo, so that's why I'm being tough. I have made countless purchases on the basis of price alone and so I will ask you what I'm asking myself these days. Would I pay full price for this? Would I pay, like $60 for this because it's so fab? If not, I keep looking. Or more likely, I return it because I *did* falter and buy the darn thing!

Claire, thanks for the tough love! I have those moments where I can see a 'maybe' item to fabulous outfit fruition, and sometimes it ends up only fabulous in my head. I thought it was $15 until I went to check out and it was half price, of course $15 is pretty cheap too ha ha. I will still give it the old college try with my grey and red tomorrow but am likely heading back with the receipt . . .

I'm trying to unlearn the bargain buying habit, too. It's a tough one to break, especially because sometimes you really DO find great items at a bargain price!

I don't know if I can really use the "would I buy this at full price" question. Because sometimes that's the point. I wouldn't buy it at full price, but I want to PLAY a little with something different, and can justify that more if it is really inexpensive. Know what I mean? So I need to work out a slightly different formula.

I love the top half but not the bottom. If you have an idea to fix it, I say go for it!

I love the colours and vibe of this top! I'm honestly not seeing the "blah-ness" or mediocrity of it. It IS a fun piece, and gives you an hourglass shape. Take that opinion as you like!

The proportions seem off. What clearlyclair and suz said about not being seduced by a low price...I'm also trying to avoid that . It just means a closet full of meh stuff
