help! These are two problematic orphans. I love the peasant shirt and the texture but have not found ANYTHING that looks right. It ends up looking like a Victorian nightshirt regardless. These soft pants are new and I love them but am having trouble matching....this is my only white shirt! I tried tucking at the proportions were better but it's too long and bulky to pull it off. Please help me with what to do with these two pieces!!! TIA! Posting a smile photo as well bc the other shows me making such a dreadful face

I rather like them together as shown. For the pants, how about an assymetrical tee? The top is so feminine without being overly sweet. Have you tried a semituck? It may be too long. The top would look great with skinnies, maybe even leggings because it is long enough.

Is your body type one that would benefit from highlighting your waist?

If so, I'm wondering if a belt with unique colouring or other detailing might help streamline the look of the shirt and add some visual pop against the white.

I also like Joy's idea of pairing the top with leggings or other skinny pants.

I'm seconding skinnies and leggings as a possibility and as per Robin's idea regarding a belt what about wearing one a little lower around upper hip area?

I think they look nice together too, and I think you look great, but maybe the look is too boho for you? Or maybe there's too much busy-ness on the top and bottom? Or maybe you just don't love the shirt?

I agree on the leggings/tunic look. I'd also wear it as an under layer with a long sweater vest or strapless dress or an Elizabethan corset-like thingy (and tuck) or tucked into a skirt...

I agree with the idea of skinnies with the top. I'd go for a faded or light denim, rolled up a bit with a chunky sandal, to exploit the boho vibe. I like the idea of trying with a belt and seeing where that goes.

The pants seem to have a utilitarian structure without a military color. Could you wear them with a fitted or boxy t?

To my eye these pieces don't belong together. I think the cute soft top would be happier with a slim ankle pant or legging perhaps. And a cute little flat espadrille.

I would try an out-of-the-box approach for the tunic:

1. With bell bottom jeans, wedges, and a very cropped sleeveless black or darker colored jacket (with interesting texture such as faux leather);

2. À la Monika, with faux leather skinnies/leggings, interesting booties that have a lot of attitude, and a shawl or oversize summer scarf;

3. Belt it: but use a thin leather belt, and wear it low; or use a rope-like belt.

4. Max on max loosely tucked into a maxi skirt in a light color, preferably cotton, held by a braided belt, and gladiator sandals;

5. Or a midi length full skirt but in a roughened material, like raw cotton or linen + flats OR darker lace-up booties or gladiators;

6. Semi-tuck it with said skirt.

7. With wide-legs linen pants, Cuban heels and a cute scarf. Or replace the heels with the gladiators and forget the scarf.

3. Untucked with BF jeans and flat walking sandals.

I'm seeing the white top as the perfect swimsuit cover up.

As for the pants, they're really cute on you. I think they'd look great with a cropped top. Not midriff baring, but a shorter top. The pants look like they have a higher waist, so you're looking for either a semi-fitted or boxy cropped top. Either woven or tee material.

I'd try all the above suggestions & maybe try turning the hem of the top up a couple of times to see how it looks shorter. Shortening a top can make a big difference to the proportions of an outfit imo.

I have a similar top to yours and I wear it with skinny jeans and boots in cooler weather or with flares (boot cuts) and sandals in warmer weather. I like volume over volume for summer. I also wear it over denim shorts. It gives a bit more sun protection than a tee. I really like your sandals btw.

I think the top would look good with cropped flared jeans for a modern boho look.
Can't really suggest anything re the pants, the look like fancy sweatpants/track pants and I'm over them.

What about a waistcoat over the top to give it more shape? It could be something light, maybe crochet..

I'm no help with the pants sorry. I don't think I've ever worn a print pant before and would have no idea how to style it.

Thanks for all these great ideas! I love the vest idea. I will play around a little more with the shirt at home. I think I will try the pants with a tank top also. Maybe a statement necklace.

This top would look great with leggings, especially ankle length leggings and cute flat sandals for a summery look.

You should try a cropped top on the pants, or you could also try a knotted top in a soft color. I also like the idea of an asymmetrical hemline top for these, especially one with some ruching or gathering on the side to give it more shape and a closer fit.

Leggings would look great with that shirt. So would some really faded jeans, I think. You could even try a knee-length knit black knit skirt & a belt.

As for the pants, I'd try another flowing top, maybe in a color to contrast with the blue. I also might try them with a funky t-shirt & skater shoes or slip-on sneakers.

They actually look alright together, too.

I agree with a lot of the replies here. Leggings and gladiator sandals would be cute with the tunic, but I also love krishnidoux's idea of bell bottoms and wedges. The soft pants would be great with a shorter soft drapey tee.

A lot of good suggestions here. I would pair the top with slim non-patterned pants that are more full length (to lessen any "pj" connection in your mind) and to lengthen the leg line - I would also add some extras such as a bold gold cuff bracelet, and gold necklace. Wearing jewelry seems like it would punctuate the fact that it is definitely not a sleeping shirt. Which in my mind, it is not.
